Shockingly enough, it was a calm, peaceful evening out. People were stirring, out living the night life and the usual nonsense such as that. Erik himself had been out and about among the people too, but, he was tired. So he went on his way to the hotel room he had been in the past few days, until he found a more permanent place of residence. He had one of the cheaper rooms, I mean really cheap. It barely looked like he could fit in there, it was so small, kind of cheap. Erik climbed some stairs and extended his arm, with key in hand to unlock the door and into the room he went. He removed his jacket, pants and so on. Leaving himself a t-shirt and underwear to sleep in, then? He fell over on the bed. He was pretty tired, after all.
It didn't take long, but Erik had fallen asleep. He was comfortable and tired, made perfect sense. None the less, he began to feel a chill a few hours later.. Just what had happened? He slowly rolled over and observed the area.. This wasn't where he'd fallen asleep. He slowly rose up and realized he had somehow gotten outside? Erik pulled himself up, looking confused. He looked over and saw some trash cans nearby.. Had he somehow used his intangibility during his sleep and ended up on the outside? He was more confused than anything at this point. Erik slowly walked out into the light, looking up at the sky. Street lights were all that made any light this early. And it was probably not the best time to be outside in your underpants. "I hope nobody's paying attention.. I'm just a normal guy standing outside without pants." Didn't sound as good out loud as it did in his head, really, it didn't.
Erik let out a loud yawn as he made his way back up towards where he had initially came from, heading in the direction of some stairs. Not paying a bit of attention to his surroundings, Erik managed to trip over a plant pot or two that happened to be in his way. He hit the ground and laid there a moment.. "So I can use my power to wake up outside but not to avoid a pot.." He complained as a few people walked by, some lady giving him an odd look.. "Perv." The lady said, must of figured he was some sort of freak trying to see up skirts or something. "Oh don't flatter yourself lady." Erik responded as he pulled himself up and started in the direction of his hotel room. Though, it was probably a peculiar sight to see for any onlookers..

((Ran out of energy before I could bite on this thread yesterday, but since no one else has jumped in...))
"Early" was pretty good at having multiple meanings. At least, that's how it occurred to Cassidy. It was so subjective. For instance, 11 o'clock PM was considered "late", but let the hands of the clock roll forward an hour and, all of a sudden, it was "early" morning. Last call - despite usually being only two or three hours beyond the "late night"/"early morning" designation - had the honor of being considered both: too "late at night" and too "early in the morning" for respectable individuals to be out and about.
But who gave a damn about "respectable"? Not the purple-haired woman who had, after experiencing a pleasantly surprising wine and... well, more wine with an immediate "ex" co-worker, purposefully flitted about the downtown area as a bar-hopping butterfly - - - wait. Wait, no, butterflies aren't out at night. And she didn't think she made much of a "butterfly" impression anyway... ... so... moth. - - - a bar-hopping moth, doing her best to ensure that the two bottles of wine at one "Spread Eagle Pub" amounted to little more than an alcoholic appetizer. And when "last call" came at the usual establishments? She fluttered (or, rather, stumbled) her way to the only places that broke the usual last call social rules: love motels and hotels that catered to international clientele. The former - which, in this particular instance she avoided, completely by chance - simply didn't care, while the latter recognized that their typically high-rolling temporary residents could feasibly arrive at any hour - and may, as was their right, require "refreshment" to help numb the jet lag.
That's how Cassidy rolled, even if she was supposed to go to work the next morning. Besides, with her cell phone broken (and lost somewhere along the way) she couldn't very well call for a ride. (And no, it did not dawn on her to use a phone at any bar, or ring up a taxi. That would have made sense!) As such, the night had become her own little walking adventure.
Yet, as the saying goes, all "good" (subjective) things must come to an end (or, at least, a stalling point. No doubt something similar would end up happening the very next night.)
This was how she managed to somehow be in the same general place as... a young man without pants... who tripped over potted plants. She was supposed to be walking home and, surprisingly, she was going in the right direction. It was... a skill developed by quite a few years of her wonderfully unprofessional behavior. Still, it could not be said that she was in her right mind. Not only was her face still as red as her uniform, but she looked half-asleep, her hair was a lovely mess stuffed under her work beret, and, instead of wearing her shoes, she was carrying her high heels in her hand. (Those things aren't the most comfortable, right?) Her gait was undeniably unsteady, and yet... every near-fall seemed to somehow be instinctively corrected.
As she neared Erik's position, she caught the slight banter between the fallen and some other unhappy nightingale. ...And she didn't flinch. Or at least, her attention was caught in a delay. Her stumbling carried her forward, a less-than-graceful spin carrying her around the other woman and directly into the path of the "pantsless wonder." Only... she somehow seemed to have anticipated it and, with an awkward twist... went right by Erik, too.
"Man... at the freakin'... obstacle course..."
One, two, three more stumbles forward she went and then, abruptly, she stopped.
"W-wait... shhhecond..." Ah, the slurring. How cute. "Wazzat...?"
Another abrupt twist, turned Cassidy halfway around... and she unceremoniously slumped over against a far wall. The smacking of her back, accentuated by the leather of the jacket she was wearing, did not at all sound kind... but she didn't seem to notice. Instead, she gave a little snort which evolved into a laugh and, even though her head remained bowed, her free hand came up with the accusatory pointing of an index finger in Erik's direction.
"Ha... hahaha... Oh... ha... man... that's... that's just great... hahaha..."
What an idiot. But, hey - that's what alcohol does!

Erik always ended up in messes like this since the awakening of his powers. Whether it was the whole awkward putting his hand through an ex-girlfriends chest, randomly falling out of an old car he used to drive and crashing it, or otherwise. The man really had no luck with the use of this power he possessed.. Intangibility is a bitch, that was the gist of what this man had learned in his time holding such abilities. But now, he found himself in another foreign, and still annoying situation. Ending up outside of his room, sans pants? While he had control over his abilities while awake, sometimes while asleep, control faded and he'd wake up in the most random spots. Today? Today was no exception.
Just as he had started to get up, he heard the sounds of obnoxious laughter.. He gazed in the woman's direction and saw a finger pointed at him.. "Hahahahaha, very funny.." Erik said in a unimpressed tone as he glanced in the ladies direction. She seemed to have a somewhat disheveled appearance as if she were drunk, out all night, or something? He couldn't tell. Erik shook his head, he never knew exactly how to take people like this. Sure he was a bit of a goof, laughing at inappropriate moments, but he'd never been on this side of that situation.
"Never seen a man in his underwear in public before, huh, HUH?! I ain't a piece of meat to be gawked at, lady!" Erik stated in a tired tone, though he was sort of joking about that last part. Even if she'd never seen a man in public in his undies, technically it wasn't a thing people saw very often either way.. Erik started to leave, and go on his merry way. He traveled in the direction of some stairs which lead back to the hotel he had came from.

Cassidy's laughter continued even as Erik made his initial, unimpressed response, but it started to fade away as she slid down the wall she had fallen against. Erik's second set of words - the accusation that she had never before seen a man in his underwear - came only microseconds after her laughter had died and her descent had been stopped by the unrelenting pavement. She sucked in a breath, audibly, after he had spoken and -
*clop...clop*
-let her shoes drop from her hand. She thought she needed a small respite, anyway, before attempting to continue her wayfarer's-like trek back home and this place was just as good as any other. Her knees came together, quickly, blocking visible access up her uniform skirt, and she slumped forward a touch, arms folding across her knees so that she could rest her chin on them.
"Why ya wanna... say somethin' like that, boy-o?" She asked, an uncomfortable smirk playing across her features. "It'sss... no good to be... funny? ...I could..." She was interrupted by a hiccup. "I could... be... ahhhh... gen-uuuu....wine... ya know? What if..." Another hiccup. "What if... what if I, uh... needed... a laugh, huh? ...You too... good fer that? What if..." And she giggled a bit. "What if... like, it was life... or death, and... and... a-and, you almost saved... uh, almost saved me, but then, like... just didn't, huh? ...That'd suck... more than... this, right? Am I right?"
And what the hell did any of that mean? In actuality, Cassidy had just voiced, in her own drunkenly strange way - to a complete stranger - that everything Tristan had told her that night had actually bothered her. And, yes, she actually had considered the potential consequences of it all. But did that matter a lick to Erik or in this situation? ...Nope. It didn't matter one damn bit.

Erik started to go on his merry way, about his own business when he heard that rude woman behind him. She's quite the noisy lady.. Next thing he knew, the woman was off in an abnormally long and confusing tirade. He stopped in his tracks and listened, though, it turns out it was a tirade he had quite the time actually making out. And it was complete with way more hiccups than he needed to be hearing tonight. He turned his gaze in her direction finally, and well, it was becoming obvious she was intoxicated or something along that fine line.
"..." Erik remained blank.. The man could acknowledge that this was a funny situation, and he did see the humor in it. But, he was on the wrong side of it. And it left him more confused than anything. "Was that English you just spoke?" Erik let out a loud sigh.. And lets not forget the fact that this whole distraction was coming while he just happened to be standing around without his pants. Hopefully no authorities or anything passed by, or he'd have a tough time explaining why he was in his underwear and a drunk woman nearby..
"Now, uh.. There's got to be a gutter you can go sleep in somewhere, and a fire hydrant you can chat with if all else fails.. What am I doing? You're too drunk to understand me.." Erik sighed for a moment before pointing down the street. "You.. hiccup. Go.. hiccup. That.. hiccup. Way. Weirdo drunk lady. If you'll excuse me, I really need to go find some pants." Erik mocked her kind of as he waved his arms so she would easily see the direction he attempted to make out, even in an impaired state. But he was finally having some fun here with this situation, despite his lack of pants. So much so that a small grin appeared across his face as a chuckle escaped him..

Were there gestures being sent her way? Cassidy couldn't quite tell. It was too much trouble to bother trying to see the young man's movements and hear his words at the same time. Hell, it was difficult enough accomplishing either of those things individually. She heard something about speaking English and, for a moment, wondered if she had, perhaps slipped into Mandarin or Japanese due to the inebriation. Then she scratched that off of her mental list of possibilities - she hadn't been very good at either language, and it had been nearly ten years since she'd even tried to speak either of them. What could he have meant? Had she slurred? And, if so, what part had she slurred? ...Then, in a split-second of crystal clear thought...
...
...she realized that she couldn't answer any of those questions because she couldn't remember a single word that she had previously said.
Oh well. The boy-with-no-pants had said more, so Cassidy shifted her focus on to that. Something about a gutter and a fire hydrant, and her being too drunk. Then came the possibly mocking imitation that may - or may not, she wasn't really sure - have been accompanied by gestures.
"What... ever," she managed, trying to sound offended, although she probably didn't actually put any extra inflection into her voice. "M'not too drunk fer... anything. Ha! I mean, who's... drunker, huh?" Cassidy went to rubbing at her left eye. "Least I still got all my clothes on..."
Her last line had apparently amused her to some degree, because she started giggling again. Then, she let out a sigh and glanced over at Erik. Her left eye was still closed.
"Ooooh... shot down... hahaha..."

Erik remained in place, listening for this odd woman to make a peep. Her response to him left a lot to be desired. And honestly? It was like talking to a wall.. That is, if a wall were completely out of it and loopy the entire time. Completely missing whatever the person says.. Then again, most walls would miss what someone says.. Not the point. But anyway, Erik sighed as she mentioned his state of dress.. Then, something about being shot down? Erik didn't exactly get that part either.
"First of all sweetheart, if you had any of your clothes off, someone would probably end up blind." He stuck his tongue out in her direction, then smirked once that gesture was completed. Erik chuckled as he walked his way up the stairs, then looked back in her direction. "Now hold on just one second.." Erik suddenly walked right through a wall.. He figured it couldn't hurt, she was drunk, how could she tell what he was doing?
A few moments passed, and finally, Erik walked back through the wall with pants on. "Since you're like falling down drunk.. Do you need any help getting home or something? I could totally call someone, get you a ride somewhere.." Erik said, part of him was attempting to be nice, and part of him was going to see her reaction to his use of his ability right in front of her like this.. Was she lucid enough to be able to tell he just walked through a wall? Then again, it didn't matter, she was probably so out of it she'd think he was a ghost or something.

What the hell? Although she didn't manage to offer a verbal response, Cassidy had most certainly heard Erik's retort involving state of dress and potential blindness. They were strangers. She wasn't sloshed enough to ignore that fact, but it only half-way softened the blow of his words. Cassidy knew she was damaged - readily admitted it, in fact... at least, internally - but she honestly didn't think she was physically unattractive.
She didn't make a sound, but she definitely frowned. Then, her arms slipped down to hug her knees, and she turned her head, so that her cheek rested on them. She would blame it on the alcohol later, but she couldn't stop herself from shedding a few silent tears as Erik walked away and disappeared. Because of this, she missed his initial "walking through the wall trick" completely, but she'd recovered enough to be looking in the direction when he made his ethereal exit from the building. Tears weren't falling anymore, but she'd certainly made a mess of her makeup.
Erik's "magic trick" did not illicit an immediate response from the purple-haired woman. In fact, she scarcely moved as he approached and, in a genuinely surprising move (to her, anyway), offered to be of assistance. She let his question hang in the air for a moment, and then glanced up at him.
"You're mean," she breathed, fully aware that it was probably one of the most childish things she could have said, but Erik's insult had managed to sober her up a little. Another beat passed, and then she added: "And... you're one of them? You sure are lucky it's me that saw it..."
For whatever reason, Cassidy didn't finish her sentence. It wasn't loyalty that temporarily stilled her tongue. Rather, the experiences of earlier that evening had already made everything about the DNCS precarious. And she wasn't even sure that the "general public" - mutants included - were really aware of what DNCS even represented.

Erik continued to watch this strange, strange individual. Her demeanor hadn't really changed, except he had recalled her sort of crying. But now she wasn't. No more tears.. But the most shocking thing was what she said next.. Mean? He wasn't mean. Or at least, his offer to her sort of proved the contrary. But then she continued, and this time? She was talking with some sense. More sense than he'd seen from her during her prior drunken situation though. Though he didn't know what she meant..
"One of what, exactly?" Erik questioned her, his smirk being immediately replaced by a look of semi confusion. Was there more people like him? What were the differences? Were there any at all? There was a massive flood of questions in his brain springing up, as if someone had let down the floodgates or something. "And what makes it so lucky that you saw me, Miss.." Another brief pause as he thought to himself.. Had this woman ever mentioned a name? He thought and thought, but couldn’t conclude that she’d ever told him such a thing.
He didn't think so. Then again, it was late, and he was probably more out of it than he should of been.. "Sorry, I don't think I caught your name? Or should I keep calling you 'random drunk lady'?" That last comment brought back a little smile to his face.. EHe didn‘t really care about a name, he was more interested in this thing she said, but names made things a bit simpler instead of referring to her in various renditions of 'that drunk lady‘.. He couldn‘t keep his mind away from her previous statement, though. If there were more of whatever he was, did they come in all shapes and sizes, or what? He needed details, and the sooner he got the information out of her, the better..

"I am random drunk lady, right?" Cassidy answered his last question first, looking a touch forlorn. Then her eyes closed and she frowned. It was a somewhat pathetic expression - a frown more of acceptance of the fact, rather than anything else. "And ugly, too, huh?" Those words were a little quieter. "That's what you meant, right?"
Then she paused, sucking in a deep breath while she started to puzzle her brain back together. It was a difficult venture - like a jigsaw whose pieces were floating in oil. Every time a piece went into place, two others came loose and floated to the rippling top. Her exhalation was equally deep and was accompanied by a somewhat vigorous smacking of her left hand to her own forehead.
"Cassidy."
Another pause. She shook her head.
"My name, I mean. And you... you... you..."
The fingers of her left hand split, revealing one of her eyes, like a stupid game of peek-a-boo. There was another pause as she debated whether or not to ask the question that was on the surface of her mind. In the end, the internal debate ended in stalemate... so she just went for it.
"You... dunno what you are? ...Fucking, I mean... walked... through a wall, but... are you serious?" Cassidy honestly couldn't decide if Erik was telling the truth... or if he was just screwing with her. After a moment, her hand dropped away from her face completely and her look told the true story: confused and conflicted. Connecting these new dots with what she had been presented with earlier, and combining them with her previous temperamental grief over Erik's would-have-normally-been-taken-in-a-light-hearted-manner insult about her looks caused a few new tears to ebb up from her eyes. She attempted to swat them away. "Aw, geez, man... really? You're like... the kind that's the easiest to catch. Jesus..."
Of course, she still hadn't answered him in terms of why it was lucky that she was the one who'd seen him "perform."

Hmm, so this woman was named Cassidy? Erik pondered that for a moment before listening to her stutter through something else.. She looked confused after making a comment as to him not knowing what he was.. And then? Insulting him.. Sort of. He was the kind that was easiest to catch? Just who'd want to catch him, exactly? Clearly this woman knew a bit about all of this. More than he'd of expected.. Maybe she'd be willing to share that information with him? After all, if someones looking for.. whatever he is, he should at least know enough to keep his eyes open.
"The names Erik. And secondly.. Did you miss me walking through that wall?" A smile appeared on Erik's face.. He was a strange one. Presented with the idea that someone may be hunting whatever his kind was, or at least the very notion of that.. And he smiled? Just what in the world was with this attitude? Most people would be panicking. But not Erik.. "See Cass', I sort of walk through walls, and various other objects. It'll take quite a lot to catch me." He figured that would indeed be the case..
Who was going to come prepared with items tailored to catch a guy who could walk through solid matter? Who would even think of that? "But I'll bite. Since you know so much.. What am I exactly? And don't say ghost. Or pervert who walks around without pants." Erik continued to kid around, it was as if he didn't get the severity of the situation she had eluded to.. Problem was, he did. He just didn't like letting onto that small fact. None the less, he needed some basic information, and if she were willing to give it to him? Well all the better.

"I saw! At least... I thought I did. Blah... I mean, since you just said it, too, what else could it be? It's not... everyday shit, you know?"
No, none of today, honestly, was "everyday." Cassidy wasn't normal; her experience with her ex-Operator wasn't normal; hell, her job/the organization she worked for wasn't normal by any stretch of the imagination. Mutants, by definition, weren't normal and, since she had rare experience with mutants, Erik - and his ability to phase through matter - was not at all normal. Was it normal for a "human" (drunk and, generally, damaged notwithstanding) to explain to a mutant what he was?
"Ugh... how... I mean, I guess if I... could do something weird... naturally... I wouldn't suspect..."
Thinking out loud might not have been the best way to go about it, but she wasn't exactly sure how to tackle such a situation. Even though she had been a skeptic before, as a Handler the human vs. mutant distinction was exceptionally common - even if actually interacting with mutants was beyond the scope of her position. It hadn't actually occurred to her that "mutants" might not truly consider themselves "different." And then there was the issue of actually explaining it. Sympathetic "behind the scenes" or not... wasn't that... sorta... precisely opposite of her job?
A moment passed.
"Oh... what the hell..." Almost furtively, Cassidy looked to either end of the alley. Nothing seemed particularly out of place... although, one couldn't say her distant senses were on point. "So... cowboy, like... the short deal is, you're DNA's... all screwed up, compared to, uh, say... mine. So... people are different, right? But you guys... you guys got a different kind of different. It had to do with some kinda virus from a long time ago. It messed up the genes of a good number of folks... and those genes have been passed along in the, ah... usual way... over the years. You... you just happened to be one of those... lucky... recipients. ...Ya got that?"
She paused again, rubbing at her eyes. Fatigue was approaching like a freight train now that she had been forced to deal with such sobering topics. She sighed.
"And... I wouldn't put nothin' past the science junkies my bosses have, ya know? ...They probably think the walk-through-walls trick is old school..."

Erik decided to listen to what this woman had to say now. Curiosity had been sparked, one might say. But what did she have to tell him that he didn't already know? That he was weird? He knew that. Walking through walls generally obtains that classification for you. The first thing she said though, rambling about all this being 'not everyday shit' sort of threw the man for a loop. And he was more than prepared to roll his eyes and walk off. But the rambling continued forth, and at times Erik wanted to blurt out for her to get on with it. But he couldn't. He needed to know this, so he had to hold his tongue for a moment..
Next thing he knew, she was explaining to him how his DNA was different, and she weaved a tale of viruses on top of it. It had all the bells and whistles. Finally once she was finished, a smile appeared across Erik's face. No mistake, he realized the situation he found himself in.. Just, he wasn't that worried? Not even about the science junkie bosses she had eluded to. "All this actually sounds kind of fun to me." He shrugged it all off, was that really all there was to it? A simple situation that he shrugs off into a smug look?
"Now Cassidy right? I see you're tired, and I'll go on my merry way and leave you to sleep it off in a corner somewhere in a bit.. Maybe I'm pushing a drunk too far with my line of questioning.. But you seem to know a lot about all this.." Erik gave her a look as if he wasn't entirely trusting of this woman. Hey, you never know, if she worked for guys who absolutely wanted to contain whatever this all was, it'd look bad on anyone. "What is it exactly you do for these science junkies?" His calm demeanor faded for just a bit as he gazed in her direction.

"Heh... haha, I, uh... I irritate the shit outta them?"
And with that, the most honest thing in the entire conversation had been said. To the DNCS, Cassidy was definitely a nuisance. To individuals within the DNCS? Her statement (posed in the form a a rhetorical question) was absolute truth. Of course, it wasn't exactly what Erik had asked, but she thought it was funny just the same.
"Uh... more, um," She cleared her throat. "More accurately, er, I'm called a "Handler." Basically, all the important info and orders and crap from home base gets sent to me, and I deal it out to the agents in the field. Um... more specifically... as a "Handler" I wear this... usually... cute-ish red uniform... and, ah... communicate directly with the more elite hunters - the "Operators."" And then she sighed. "Mine broke up with me tonight, ya know? He had such a regal name, too..."
She let that thought trail off, her gaze wandering down the alley in the direction she had been stumbling along before Sir Pantsless had appeared in front of her. Although this was not a very interesting gesture, perhaps her complete lack of response to Erik's "reckless" reply to potentially being hunted was of interest? Or, perhaps, it was interesting that she just didn't seem to care that she was giving information (albeit surface information) to a complete mutant stranger? Probably not. Cassidy didn't think herself a terribly interesting person. She added an after-thought:
"Oh... and they take my money. Ha, or I 'donate', I guess you could say. ...Prolly only reason I got this job in the first place... Hey, you gotta cell phone?"

Today had been a day of discovery for young Erik. Both self discovery and otherwise, and while he was still reeling from the idea that there were more like him and were dubbed 'mutants'.. A part of him always expected some sort of explanation like that for all these recent occurrences. Even with the threat that there were people out there who wanted to capture mutants, he somehow felt okay just knowing he wasn't alone in this battle. Next thing he knew, he zoned back into the conversation with this lady, finally able to stop being lost in his own thoughts. He did his best to pick up where he left off listening, though, he may of missed some things. But from what he understood, she was some sort of handler or so she said. Then she informed him of her uniform, and a few other basic little factoids he was unaware of such as these 'operators'.
This had all the makings of something that would be truly fun, he thought to himself. It was a kind of sick way of thinking, as these people sounded dangerous. But he enjoyed that sort of thing. Then he heard that they take her money, but then she asks him for a cell phone? Part of him was curious this was all an act, and some guys with nets would pop up and drag him off to a warehouse somewhere.. But he sighed and reach into his pocket, shuffling around in them, knowing he had one in there somewhere. She didn't seem to be like that, from what he could perceive. "Uh, sure, just one.. second." He continued to look around, thinking to himself in annoyance at just how many pockets were on this pair of pants he had put on. But finally, he found it and handed it out in her direction.
"By the way I'm sorry for the insulting remark I made earlier by the way. You've been very helpful. Sounds like you've been down on your luck and there I go being an ass to make matters worse." He said in a brief moment of compassion for another human being, though he was curious about the phone situation. But before he could put anymore thought into that, he let out a cough, covering his mouth. Coming to realization maybe he'd spent too much time outside without any pants on earlier.. But it was nothing some bed rest wouldn't cure once he had seen this woman off, after all, it was the least he could do for all the help.
