[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=width, 500px] [atrb=style,border-top: 10px solid #4477aa;background-color: #222222;] LYRE MAYBRIDGE. NINETEEN ✖ FEMALE ✖ HETEROSEXUAL ✖ MUTANT ✖Power/Ability Precognition - Lyre can perceive the future in three different forms. |
[li] The easiest and most accurate way for Lyre to predict the future is through her dreams. They come in much more clear and easier to identify what's going on and when. She can predict up to several days in advance, but only depending on how much sleep she gets. The less sleep she gets, the less time she predicts.[/li][/ul]
[li] One of Lyre's less stable prediction methods, she is able to enter a trance like state by staring at an area for a long period of time, and able to predict what goes on at that certain area she's staring at. Though, she is unable to identify any sort of time she sees, as it could be five minutes into the future that she is seeing, or up to five hours.[/li][/ul]
[li] The second of Lyre's most reliable predictions, though she has no control over it what so ever. If Lyre is in an area or in any type of danger in the future where she is, she will freeze up and almost 'zone out' as she peers into the future. It often tells her where the danger is coming from and how soon, allowing her ample time to escape. But if she is being pursued by one, and another makes itself known this can throw her into a loop for getting caught, as she will again freeze up allowing time for the first danger she sensed to catch up with her while she is 'seeing' the second.[/li][/ul]
Non-Mutant Skills
- Gymnastics
Lyre took gymnastics from a very young age, she's flexible and can easily lift her weight and balance on narrow things with ease. She's taken up a liking to parkour, which comes easily to her and helps her escape if she's ever in danger.
✖ Personality
[/b]
Lyre's experiences with people often come by as awkward, not quite sure to say in situations and often flustered if put on the spot light.[/ul]
Once you get to know her personally, she can be very kind and loyal to those she cares about. But her trust isn't easily gained because of how easily her friends had tossed her aside. But if you have her as a friend, she'll be a friend for life and someone you can go to. She'll hide you from the cops if need be.[/ul]
She's quick to defend herself if she feels she's insulted or hinted at it. Often mistaking people's words and scrambling them up in her head if she doesn't understand at first, and jumping to defend herself even if she's not sure from what.[/ul]
Only when the situation calls for her to be serious, does she not express herself in a variety of interesting facial expressions. To puffing up her cheeks when she doesn't get her way in a friendly 'Fine, you win' type of situation, to giving others deadpanned stares when they're acting idiotic. There's always an expression for something in her arsenal.[/ul]
She may come off as someone who's entirely positive of herself, but often she's always battling some inner turmoil of what to do. Most say her view is black and white but she struggles with her fair share of grey areas, but she keeps it to herself.[/ul]
Though must wouldn't think so, Lyre is extremely observant to those around her. To the smallest shift in stance to the tone change in your voice, reading others is generally as easy as it is to read her.[/ul]
Depending on how high of a regard she holds you in, depends on how many chances you get to be back in her good graces. But once you've run out of chances, Lyre knows how to hold a grudge for a long time. Be prepared for snarky remarks and cold stares if you're on her bad side and good luck trying to get back on her good side.[/ul]
Not one to stop, it doesn't matter how many times she's kicked down she'll be sure to get back up and dust herself off and jump right back into the game.[/ul]
Lyre can be very critical on herself and others, holding herself and others up to a certain standard that if it's not met, she ends up disappointed, or even frustrated.[/ul]
Lyre can be very patient when needed, though she may act otherwise occasionally, when it comes down to it she's a patient person.[/ul]
Generally, Lyre wants people to like her or at least think she's okay. Coming off slightly offended and hurt when people say they don't like her or have a biased opinion and dislike her off that or what they've heard about her.[/ul]
Typically Lyre follows the golden rule "Treat others as you would like to be treated" and tries to be nice or at least polite to others. Unless someone has been cross with her, she tries to treat everyone with the same respect that she would like in return. [/ul][/blockquote]
✖ History
Lyre was born to two loving parents Scott and Ellen, in a very small town - the kind where everyone sort of knew everyone. Her parents were kind and loving, both working hard to give their daughter the life they felt she deserved, her mother working as a pharmacist and her father owning a repair shop.
From a young age Lyre was always typically quiet and quite shy, never outspoken or disobedient in any form. Taking up gymnastics at a young age helped her break out of her shell much to the joy of her parents. With her small group of friends and new found love of gymnastics she soon became the social butterfly of her class. Doing well in school, but nothing all that extraordinary except for a few after school classes with her close friends.
When she turned fifteen is when she started to notice something different. Nightmares in all shapes and forms would come to her in her sleep, often waking up with a start or even on the floor tangled in bed sheets. Scott who often came home late from working at the shop, was the first to notice this as he made a habit to check on his daughter before going to sleep. He would notice her tossing and turning, crying out in her sleep and even once or twice waking up with a scream.
Eventually, Scott brought the topic up to his wife when he noticed over the next few months that Lyre looked worse for wear. Bags hung under his daughters eyes, she was no longer so outgoing, her demeanor had taken a pale sunken hue. So with a chat with his wife, it was decided that they would bring their daughter to a psychiatrist. Lyre was reluctant at first, until her father confessed to knowing about her night terrors and all though Lyre wasn't all that thrilled at the prospect, she did as her parents asked and attended psychiatrist lessons.
It wasn't until a year later that Lyre's dreams began to center around her home town. Dreaming of crime and other things happening before they did, and until her psychiatrist pointed out that the dreams she was having were also strangely accurate because it would be in the paper. Things like breaking and entering, the town wasn't very big so crime was virtually non-existant unless it was a traveling or relative of someone's. It was an issue that her psychiatrist, Mary, brought up to her parents who simply waved it off. Lyre had always been particularly sensitive, and they had simply assumed she had been watching a TV show and dreamed of it happening to her home town.
Until the time she predicted a fire that would consume two houses and kill four people. It had been an average visit to the psychiatrist, explaining the horrible nightmare she had that took place in her home town. Explaining how she had seen a calendar in her dream and that it stated October 6th, and her clock had read 2 P.M. and strangely the basement of a house staring directly into the center of the basement, before vividly changing in a splash of colors to outside, where the house ignited and lit up the house next to it. The three people in the neighboring house and the one killed instantly from the explosion from the original house. Mary had assured her nothing would happen and to not watch television before bed.
Two days later the house ignited and lit the house next to it, the four people were killed, three from burns and one instantly in the explosion. Mary concerned about this, sat Lyre's parents down and explained what was going on, the small but constant dreams of miniscule things, to the houses and people dying. Lyre taking matters into her own hand, and with her dreams as clear as ever began to try and warn people of things happening, avoid certain roads because of accidents. But each time they simply ignored her, giving their condolences to her parents on her daughters mental break. Then when everything she said came true, the people she had warned dying in accidents or people breaking in and entering. They started to accuse Lyre of being the devils advocate.
Scott and Ellen were distraught at the things that had escalated so quickly, their own flesh and blood trying to help people and being called a devil and demon. They accused Lyre of setting off the events and killing off those people even though there was no evidence stating she had other than warning those involved. It was then that their fears were brought to life, what they had tried to deny was true. Their own daughter, was a mutant.
At sixteen, a year after the two houses lit up and everything went downhill, Lyre had given up trying to warn people, her parents warning her not to tell people what she was seeing. The entire town stayed away from her, she lost all her friends and her parents were the only ones who stuck by her side. Encouraging her to ignore their remarks of being a demon, and trying to help her get through school. With all her friends banned from seeing her, lest she unleash a curse and have them killed. School was hard, teachers and students alike avoided her like the plague, only a few teachers didn't bother to it, stating that they were from a large city and that this town had always been superstitious to a fault. In time people had just left her be, no longer calling her names but instead remained distant from her.
Four months later Lyre experienced another devastating dream. A single mother and her child were going to be broken into in the middle of the night, the woman would be raped and her child shot. Desperate to save this small family she approached them at her house, warning them of the oncoming danger and to stay at someone's house for a while. The woman refused to believe her and eventually when Lyre refused to leave until she believed her, the sheriff was called and Lyre was arrested and taken to the station where her parents picked her up.
Two days later, the house was broken into and the woman was raped and the child shot just as Lyre predicted it would. The woman was struck with grief and anger, spent her days in her house and blamed it all on the demon spawn, and eventually made an anonymous call.
Finally graduating school, and looking into colleges far from the town in attempt to get away from it all. Lyre's dreams centered around men like cops, her name and picture tacked to a board with other people she didn't recognize right up there on the wall with her picture. Each night she dreamed of them, from their office wherever it was, to airplanes and roads, until one night she woke with a start. Her dreams had shown her the same van she had been dreaming of, pulling up into her driveway, forcefully taking her away from her family while her parents argued with an authority looking figure. She saw herself being taken away from her home, and to an unknown place. Fearing for whatever these men wanted from her, she quickly pulled on a pair of jeans, shirt and hoodie before fleeing from her house and into the woods with nothing but her wallet and phone on her. Like Déjà vu the van pulled up into her driveway in the middle of the night. She could see people rounding the house with things that resembled tasers demanding to see her as soon as her parents answered.
With a text to her parents phone stating that she was okay, and that she couldn't stay any longer, she left her phone in the grass and took off to the largest city nearby.
At nineteen, Lyre has been living by herself for over a year, working at a small cafe not far from her little rundown apartment. She's doing community college but always has the fear that the men will find her again, for whatever purpose that they're collecting people like her for.
✖ Example
"Y-You know I would never do anything like that." Lyre tried to explain, taking a step toward her group of friends who huddled together, each carrying a look of disgust or fear. "I would never kill those people, I tried to warn them!"
The self-proclaimed leader of their little group stuck her foot forward advancing a step with a sneer on her face. "Mama says the devil uses you to hurt people! All these people you've 'warned' have ended up dead!"
"Because they didn't listen!" Desperate for someone to believe her, casting a glance at her best friend of the group, tears welling up in her grey eyes as she tried to explain to her supposed friends. But they wouldn't listen, their faces were still mixed with fear and she knew then that no matter how much she tried to explain they weren't going to believe her. So with a resigned fate she dropped her hands to her sides and clenched them into fists. "Fine," She began, eyes hardening and making them flinch. "You're obviously going to believe the words of strangers over the person you've known your entire life!" The bitter resentment of their betray stung like a wasp and she was angry because if it had been one of them, she would have believed what they had said rather than some stranger.
Grasping the friendship necklace they had all childishly worn since middle school, and ripping it from her neck and casting it at their feet, quickly turning on her heel to walk away and hide the tears that bubbled up and dripped down her cheeks. "Your association with the demon ends here. Just like you came to do."
