The virus which now only exists in the current carriers first started out like a common disease like the cold or the flu and was able to be transmitted through the air. This is why the town the outbreak started from was sealed off and eventually destroyed to avoid spreading to the rest of the world. That being said, the virus no longer exists. At least not in that state. Most of the people who were subject to the virus died. There were, however, twelve who survived. The 'immune' that survived the ordeal were actually effected in a different way and became carriers. Their DNA had been altered (or rather mutated) and as they passed their genes, so to did they pass the mutation. For some reason or another, the mutation seems to advance in certain cases, causing superhuman abilities. (If you have more questions about the subject or would like to suggest something, pm Argent.) Can my human characters become infected? Unless they were born with the virus and mutated DNA, no they cannot become infected. The airborne state of the disease had been destroyed and has since never been created again due to the negative effects on most people. So your human character doesn't risk becoming infected. At least not currently. That may change as the plot is developed. However at the current time and knowledge, please just assume it won't happen when creating a human character. If you want a mutant, you are better off creating one who was born that way. When do the mutants powers show? The virus seems to be triggered at puberty so any physical signs that they are mutated before then are nonexistent. The only way you can tell is by examining their mutated DNA. A common age for most to 'awaken' is by the age of 13 however that doesn't mean it cannot be earlier or later for the virus to take effect. (Our youngest age for character's we will allow is 13 however so if you want to roleplay out them discovering their powers, they will have to be 13 or older when they are effected by the virus.) Due to it being new to them, they wont have best control over their abilities and should practice to avoid any accidents. Just be careful. Cause too much attention and the scientists will send their hunters out for you. What kind of powers can we use? Anything really! As long as it's not too powerful. We want to avoid godmodding. Anything like Invulnerability or Time Travel will automatically be rejected. So please refrain from choosing anything overly powerful or rather unstoppable. While it's good to have a fighting chance against the government, we don't want it to be too easy for you. That would just be boring! If you are having problems coming up with an ability, go here for ideas. Where is the plot going? Do you even have an idea? Of course we do! However for the fun of it and to make it more focused on the characters rather than the plot, you wont know about it until major events. We want to get a solid ground for all of our characters and make sure we have a way to include them in major plots. So yes, at the time we don't have much direction plot wise. As for ideas, they wont be revealed until we get enough characters and how we determine you're character's interaction with others and the situations they are going through. All in all, you are going in blindly. But that's what makes it more of an adventure! Plot with the members and we will see where we go from there. It will be fun I promise. How rare are the mutants? I wouldn't necessarily call them rare. Frankly it's been almost 200 years since the outbreak and genetics have been spread quite a bit. However that's not to say you will find 100 mutants in the same area. They are rare enough that people don't know they exist. That being said, the amount of mutants we will allow on the site will be limited. So be sure to grab one while you still can. *More questions may be added later.
