There was a reason Dorian wasn’t permitted to choose his own outfit when he needed to be fresh and ready to face the camera. He seemed to think rainbows were marvelous and combined articles of clothing that were from different styles because the striking discrepancy somehow was pleasing to him. In other words – he simply had no fashion sense. Although he didn’t admit it as truth out loud, he wasn’t un-aware of it. Whenever he stretched out of his fashion advisor’s letter of law, he did so just to exercise his right of expressing himself however he pleased and clothes were as much a means for that as anything else.
Today he felt especially rebellious and expressive. He had one of those rather ridiculous vampire roles, the bloodsucker in question apparently working as a lawyer of eccentric nature. The role suited him reasonably well and was one of the more typical him interpretations, which was both relaxing (as he didn’t have to expand drastically out of his character much) and boring (for it posed little challenge). With every role he molded himself after Dorian became a little different, a little more. He sunk so deep into the psyche of the person he was supposed to represent that it left him with a remnant of their character, of their responses to situations and other people. Consciously, he recognized the foreign responses as not of his own repertoire, but every other day, especially when he used his power more (and he did with some recklessness), he had to wonder what exactly was like him.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, meaningful questions like that were short-lived in his mind, coming and going like the seasons placed on fast forward. Dorian sat on his chair, placed in a private booth out of several others, waiting for the makeup artist to make art of his face and turn him from a relatively normal looking man to a fearsome vampire with sharp canines. There were contact lenses that made his eyes red to be put on, his glasses left somewhere farther onto the table of various and MANY cosmetic instruments. His skin needed to reach a pallor that made him look unnatural and, as teen flicks went, his eyes were to be thoroughly enhanced by whatever magic makeup there was available and could make them contoured without actually looking excessive. His hair also needed to be turned from spikily unruly to gentleman gelled back.
Dorian’s last makeup artist had taken leave because she was giving birth. Although he missed her distinctly pregnant infectious cheer, he was kind of looking forward to what the industry would surprise him with next. Aurora had been fun to talk to and hang out with, but she was so obviously pregnant and happily married it made him act ridiculously decent and docile around her, constantly aware of not doing anything to somehow upset her pregnancy. Dorian sighed, placed his elbow on the vanity table and planted his chin in his palm as he watched himself in the mirror. However comforting it was to observe his humanity, it tired him to be overly careful. The person that stared back at him from the mirror wasn’t perfectly clear and he anticipated the moment of having his vision made better by the contact lenses with some impatience.
An entire spread of clothes were hung on a long metal bar to his left. They were all various outfits his character would wear through the movie. Different versions of the same general idea, all tossed up together. His (especially) fashion advisor had come, dressed him, and left to tend to the other cast members. In the other’s absence, he had taken the liberty to change a few things here and there. The result was a heinous tie on an elegant suit and cufflinks that didn’t seem to fit well with the suit OR the tie. He had even stuffed a random fluffy flower in the front pocket where something like a perfectly neat folded napkin would have looked much better. Needless to say, its color didn’t fit anything either.
As Dorian waited to be tended to with care and grace only makeup artists could employ, he didn’t think anything looked out of place. The set for today's filming was somewhere near the public library.

"Hey Silvia, this is Aurora! Um, well, you know it's about that time, so if you're not too busy, I would love if you could, y'know, fill in for me? My boss has already seen your portfolio and loves you! So, you would start in a couple of weeks? I'll give you everything you need. And probably a few good warnings too. Talk to you soon!" This was the voicemail that Vincente had got only two weeks ago, from one of his artist buddies who worked with actors. In many ways, Vincente had always been kind of jealous of Aurora for having that gig. Every movie was different, of course, so Aurora's job could possibly never get boring. The two chatted over every genre's makeup style, and Vincente was always astounded by the variety. One week she would work on blood and guts action genre makeup, the next was doing the grotesque makeup of some alien horror creature, and then the next week was applying old age to a twenty-five year old actor to make him look seventy. Sigh. It was always new, always fresh! But what was Vincente left with? He took a minute, as he was getting ready to walk to the studio, to look at the contents of his purse. Models were surprisingly low maintenance. Besides changing the style of the mascara and eyeshadow, there wasn't much change in what makeup models needed. No variety. And oh how Vincente craved variety!
So when Aurora gave Vincente a ring, he was quick to sweep the new opportunity up. Five minutes later from receiving that voicemail, he had got in contact with Aurora's boss, worked his charm, and was now making his way to the set to work his makeup magic on actors for the first time in his entire life. He began wondering what kind of people these actors really would be, though. He had become immune to divas, because every model thought they were one. Were actors like that? How should he act? These were some of the thoughts fluttering in Vincente's nervous mind as he pushed open the door to the inside of the studio and was met immediately by a small crowd of folks hustling and bustling. He could hear directions being shouted left and right, and trying not to look awkward, he slinked past all the busy moviefolk trying to find someone he knew. A familiar face, anything to ease his nerves so he could return to being happy ol' Vincente. Fortunately, his prayers were answered by someone high above!
A man, looking particularly sweaty and stressed, tapped Vincente on the shoulder while he was ditzily looking around. He jumped a bit, turning around. The other man looked Vincente up and down, unabashed, and then nodded curtly. "Ms. Silvia Caro? Aurora said you're hard to miss. I figure this..." He pointed to Vincente's very natural pink hair, "...is why?"
Vincente laughed a bit nervously, before protectively running his hands through his pink curls, "Well, you must be Mr. Castle!" He offered the man his best smile, shaking hands. "It's nice to meet you at last!"
The other man nodded, and he motioned Vincente to follow him. That same curt, brusque action. They began walking to the actors' dressing rooms. "Yeah. This way. We'll get started right away. Heard you've never done a real set like this before? But you've been training with Aurora, and you seem like a winner. I'm sure everything will be okay. I've assigned you to Dorian Mourey. He'll be playing the vampire. Keep it realistic, not too much. You can see Aurora's notes if you need anything else. Room right over there." He nodded again to the crossdresser before practically running off to do whatever was clearly preoccupying him. Vincente looked a bit miffed at the man's behavior, but it didn't faze him as it would have a total newbie. This was the world of movies, after all. And he had been hurried before when working on intensive photoshoots with groups of models. It was no different, was it?
That's what Vincente wanted to think, until he approached Dorian's booth. The door was slightly ajar. Vincente took only a moment to breathe to gather himself before he knocked and then waltzed right into Dorian's room with that trademark gleefulness in his step. What Dorian might be see is some girl who was dressed perhaps a bit too cutesy. But it was bright and happy! He had on a white hairband, butterfly earrings, and a bright red floofy sundress that seemed to look scarlet in the light. Vincente stopped only briefly to absorb the surroundings, ...a row of clothes, the nearby vanity--a place he would call home--and... good God, a man Vincente assumed was Dorian Mourey. Bright blue eyes widened in a bit of shock at the mismatched colors. But maybe it was part of the character? Poor, naieve Vincente.
Giving the other man an extra-wide smile, Vincente practically bounced on over, his white Mary Jane shoes making a slight clicky noise as he did so. He immediately offered his hand to the other, "Mr. Mourey, right? Hi!! My name's Silvia Caro. I'll be your new makeup artist. I'm filling in for Aurora. This shouldn't take long~. In fact, I think it will be exciting!" It was practically sing song. Whether or not Dorian responded, Vincente went immediately to work. He first took some time to arrange the makeup items before diving into some liquid white concealer. The first stage was always concealer for that pallid look. It was the layers that would take the most time. And...as Vincente's eyes peered sideways at Dorian's clothes... biting his tongue as he would attempt to withstand what he assumed to be the scriptwriter's poor choice of characterization.

((Nothing succeeds like excess! Ahem... I mean there's no such thing as too long. ))A knock preceded the scarlet dressed, pink haired, blue eyed bundle of cheerfulness that danced into Dorian’s booth. He drew himself from the table and turned around in his chair, green eyes noting the minimal shock in, what he thought to be, the attractive young woman before him. Dorian suppressed a grin. It was the tie wasn’t it? For all he knew they had never met before, so she couldn’t possibly be recalling something completely irresponsible that he could have done to or around her, but you never know! Reputations travelled like wildfire and burned inside everyone’s eyes even before they met the person, but in that case there wouldn’t be any outward display of surprise, just quiet judgement. A hand was given and Dorian grinned subtly, taking it as the introduction was issued and getting up in one fluid ascend from the plush cushioned chair he occupied. “It is indeed!” He confirmed the identity that labeled him, never letting go of the hand he seemed to have failed to understand was given for the purpose of a shake and instead wiling the excess cuteness before him into a brief display twirl. It was pink and bubbly. It was slender and elegant. His eyes were livening with LIKE. When the twirl ended he was grinning broadly and his eyes were sparkling. “D’awww!” He would lunge forward and attempt to seize Silvia into an enthusiastic hug and melt a little on the inside if he made skin contact with any pink curls. “They should’ve told me they were sending a human cream puff! I would have prepared my soul better~” If he managed to get the spontaneous typically Dorian-like embrace, he would hold it for a moment of getting a deep inhale of Silvia’s fragrance before drawing back and letting what he perceived as a her get to work. He stood by Silvia’s side just a little more, oozing fondness and leaning in some to poke his finger comically at a curl from that fabulous mane of hair before dropping back into his chair in a bit of a tossed fashion, one of his arms landing on the armrest and one of his polished coven shoes immediately coming to rest against his opposite knee. With some theatrical flair, his head came to lean on the knuckles of that arm's hand, his enthusiasm receding slowly into a long, borderline devious stare. The smile on his face was treading into the realm of charming. “Call me Dorian, I’m not keen on that formality fanfare,” he requested, making a sweeping motion with the fingers of his free hand. He was ready to sit up properly for the application of makeup when Silvia would decide to come at him with it. “Soooo… lovely pink vision in red, how long have you been fluttering around the movie industry’s quarters?” He wanted to get an idea about Silvia’s level of experience with it as well as figure out how closely Silvia could have been exposed to rumors about him. They ranged from calling him an approachable friendly goof to a charming careless bastard. It wouldn’t do to be considered in such limited terms. Aurelia would have been one of the people who saw more of his nice side, although she frequently facepalmed when collecting him drunk from parties. “Also, could you help me with the contact lens after you apply that foundation? I’m a bit blind without them you see.” He gestured a finger at his face, moving it up and down in an almost bounced fashion. “And don’t worry about poking me in the eye, I’m used to it,” he added with a laugh. It was one of those circumstances where wearing contacts was required for both the character and the glasses wearing actor. It wasn’t fun to see the world through a slight haze. “I do hope you’ll grow to feel at home here in my traveling cabin and if there’s anything you need that hasn’t been provided, just add it to the list of my own requirements.” Dorian waved a hand vaguely. His personal staff was always provided for in a pampered fashion. Whereas most scenic divas treated them with airs and demands, he was in the other extreme, insisting they feel just as comfortable as he was while getting to know them instead of sparing them just an acknowledging glance from time to time. That was a reason most good rumors came from their sector. The day was pleasant, he was readying to play a role that would be both fun and profitable, his new makeup artist seemed chipper enough to compete with Aurora’s pregnant glow and there was nothing he could need or want for at that moment. Life was good.

Oh no. It was...not just the tie. It was the tie in combination with everything else. And it was for this very reason that Vincente was a little cautious when approaching Dorian in the first place. However, the fashion problems picking at his brain were the very least of the issues here. Before he even could take a step back and create the comfy human distance between them, the pink-haired boy found himself being twirled by Dorian. Those bright blue eyes of his widened in shock, and he let out a squeaky sounding "Oh!" before he could figure out exactly what just happened. But that was only round one. Then, when Dorian reached forward to hug him, and... Vincente wasn't really sure to think of at this point. Although for the record, it should be noted Vincente smells strongly of perfumed lotion--a particular cherry-almond floraly scent mix seems to be the choice of the day. Otherwise, while his client was getting to know Vincente by touch and smell, time seemed to stop for our little crossdresser, because he was suddenly reliving Aurora's warnings echoing in his head. She had just told some joke, and then had added nonchalantly, "He's a little strange, this one" she had said, a smirk on her face. And then, Vincente remembered his own reply, "Don't worry, it'll be fine! I'm sure we'll get along just fine."
Now, Vincente was re-analyzing the situation. This person had just broken the boundaries of inner bubbles, and his hugs were generous. At this very moment, the makeup artist person realized a vital piece of information: He would never meet someone like Dorian. Nope. Never. And so, he knew he had to laugh at the situation. And he did! He started laughing loudly, stepping back from Dorian as the actor began poking his hair and staring. (Though what was it with people and his hair today?!) "C-cream puff?! That's a first. If it means anything, you kind of remind me of a cherry cordial!" He beamed happily, before waving his hand in response to the next comment. "Dorian it is, then! Do you like nicknames?" Then, the artist got a little distracted as he straightened and classified more of the makeup. He had to really get a good look to see just what Aurora and her boss had invested in her makeup set.
The next question, however, sent a little heat to Vincente's face. He looked over his shoulder, smiling, "Aw, you're very sweet. I actually haven't been in the movie industry for more than, well,..." He made a bit of a wobbly hand motion, "Fifteen minutes, give or take! My other job is doing makeup for models. I've been doing that for four years now... Well, professionally anyway. I used to do my mother's makeup as a kid. She was a supermodel for awhile." The last fact he kind of drifted off on, because he knew it was going to come up anyway, if they were going to talk. So he made sure to take off all the emphasis he could on his mother. Hopefully Dorian would take the hint and not walk on that unholy ground. He started unscrewing the lid to the liquid white face foundation when Dorian mentioned his contacts. And Vincente immediately stopped what he was doing.
It was actually comforting to start on familiar ground. Lots of models wore contacts, too. "Oh, you wear contacts? Good thing you told me now! We'll put in the contacts now, and then we'll do your foundation, okay? Just so we don't scratch the lenses or anything or mess up the makeup job~. Is it easy for you to put them in? I've known a lot of people who twitch and do all sorts of crazy stuff when they wear contacts." The pink-haired one now began busying himself with taking the contacts out of solution and very carefully bringing it over to where Dorian sat. He smiled a bit nervously. Although his nicely rounded, red-lacquered fingernails made the job a little easier, Vincente was always scared he would drop it at any moment. He bent down a bit to meet Dorian face level, though that wasn't hard. Being short had its advantages. And then, he prepared to insert the contacts!
Should he be successful, he would go back immediately to his original task--getting the liquid foundation onto a flat-top brush. He dipped the brush tip into the little canister and was now preparing to paint Dorian's face. "Alright! Are you ready~? This might tickle. But I'm sure you're used to it, right? You haven't told me how long you've been acting, yourself!" Vincente now tilted his head, waiting for the answer to his question before he would begin applying the foundation in dots and splots before he filled in the spaces with gentle strokes. [/style][STYLE=background-color: #1d1d1d; color: #434343; font-family: verdana; font-size: 8px; text-align: right; padding: 0px 10px 5px 0px;]made by ayu of btn [/style] |

The other’s discomfort was almost palpable even to someone like Dorian, not that the actor felt self-conscious or inclined to adjust his attitude, opting for displaying a grin instead. However, he would do his very best to behave. Silvia seemed like an interesting person, so it was best not to scare off the cream puff from the very first day. A cherry cordial huh? Dorian’s grin just intensified with pleasure. “That’s a first for me too,” he near hummed, his eyebrows raising some with the mention of nicknames. “Feel free to be creative,” he winked. Dorian had gotten oodles of nicknames over the years and they ranged from “Dory sweetie” to “inconceivable bastard,” depending who you asked.
As the moments slipped by (while Vincente was admitting the makeup set) Dorian’s deviousness started subsiding slowly. Those soft pink curls were reminding him of something that stayed just beyond his consciousness. It poked at him gingerly with some uncharted nostalgia he didn’t know how to or if he wanted to interpret. He realized he was staring in a borderline sentimental way when bright blue eyes were cast his way again and he blinked the moment away, straightening slightly in his seat as the other revealed having just started working in the movie industry with close ties in fashion business. Dorian didn’t know much about models, or fashion - as his current outfit could proudly attest to. Almost immediately, his eyes narrowed but he oozed amusement. “I see. So I was the chosen initiate sacrifice? Good, good. I’m delighted to be your first… film project.” Not that there was much difference between the fields really, but where there was room for teasing, there would be teasing.
“Good idea.” Dorian prepared himself for the uncomfortable experience as he had thousands of times already. His hands grabbed hold of both armrests and he prepared to withhold his blink reflexes. He would have put them on himself if he wasn’t so blind that he could barely find them in the solution and so often lost them during the process. Because most of his characters didn’t wear glasses, he had to wear contacts of some sort quite often. “I’m tough, don’t worry about it.” Meaning he had impressive physical self-control. Who would have thought! When Vincente came to him with the contacts, it took all of his concentration not to do something typically Dorian again and focused on keeping his green eyes wide and slowly looking right, left, up and down to have them settle on his eyes properly, resisting the urge of blinking just barely but managing nonetheless.
He sighed with relief when the task was over, now watching Vincente with blood red eyes in a predatory fashion. The other’s face was finally clearly defined. He didn’t have to fake the rapacious look in his eyes. “Well? How does it look? Believable enough for a thirsty vampire?” He displayed a suave smile for the scope of the demonstration and his words had been said in a purposefully low but warmly inviting tone. He managed to hold on to the not-really-an-act for a few moments when the memory struck and his expression changed, the charming fierceness mellowing gradually into thoughtful surprise. It was a long time ago, when he had been just a boy at his first foster home. Amongst his young friends there had been a pink haired girl with flowers in her hair, smiling brightly every day. He had been a rather sour kid at the beginning back then.
Vincente was already back to working with the foundation when Dorian smiled at the spontaneous memory. It seemed like forever since he had thought about anything with relation to his childhood. It was funny that the red dressed makeup artist, of all people, would remind him of something so innocent. “Ready…” he confirmed just above a whisper, his eyes openly studying Silvia’s face while his was subjected to brush strokes in a very calm fashion. He met the question with a lopsided smile. “Around five years. I’m still waiting for my big break.” The role that transformed a semi-obscure actor into one of the hottest things on the screen. Dorian could smell Hollywood not far away, but the role he was going to play in this movie didn’t quite feel like IT. He seemed to forget that he was probably in for a completely different fate because of his mutated DNA. But no matter! Dorian loved to dream.
“You reminded me of someone-“ He started to say without thinking, his eyelids lowering just a little as some fondness colored their expression, but cut himself off, hesitating, before chuckling the thought away. “Nah, it’s nothing.” Dorian closed his eyes briefly as the other worked on his face, his fingers drumming against his legs. Thoughts of the party he would be throwing tonight replaced his childhood musings. “So. Do you have any dreams?” Dorian wanted to be famous, so famous the government wouldn’t be able to touch him without creating a scene. “Also, what’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?” His eyes opened again when he asked the last question, some deviousness back in them.
