*Ahem*
Before I begin, may I bore you with a brief introduction of myself? Yes? No? Too bad.
My name is Tori, but I like to go by Tora online. It just seems fitting; it also distinctly divides reality from virtual life. I live in Arizona, surrounded by endless cacti. Yes, it gets to be over 110 degrees. [end tacky weather discussion] I haven't been role-playing for terribly long (perhaps 2-3 years), but I've always been a writer. In the fourth grade, we were assigned a 1 page short story to write. HA! Mine was four pages, and I wasn't even finished before the teacher collected them! Screw her. Since then, I've always had trouble finishing stories.
THAT'S WHY I NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!
I want to write a story that just hit me last night as I made my way to the kitchen for dinner. BAM! But I'm not sure if it's the type of novel people would be interested in reading, and whenever I've had other ideas for novels, I never got very far before I would lose interest and leave them to collect virtual dust in my computer.
BUT... I believe I can make it this time!! What I've always been needing is support, nagging support. Well, that's what I think so, anyway. We'll see.
So....about this novel of mine.... in this story, a girl from the medieval ages somehow falls into a time portal that transports her to the year 2070-ish. In that year, Earth has already had contact with advanced alien life. The aliens are in need of repairs and a pit stop, so they form an alliance with the humans where they share their foreign, yet advanced, technology in exchange for resources. I'm also thinking about tossing in a second alien race, this one war-faring. Both the aliens end up needing the same thing: an old human relic of legendary power. This relic is Excalibur. The tech-savvy aliens need it to repair their ship or something, and the war-faring aliens need it because it's the "ultimate weapon" or something.
I've already decided that the girl (I haven't named her yet, but it will probably be something like Catherine, Elisabeth, or Joan) will have been good friends with a boy named Arthur, and may have even developed a crush on him. That is, until she falls through the hole. Somehow, Arthur is at the center of everything, and Catherine/Elisabeth/Joan is thrown into his story.
Bored?
Catherine/Elisabeth/Joan falls through the portal and appears on the tech-savvy star-ship. She is stuck in this time for a few years until she finds Arthur, who was able to travel to his exact destination in time because he had the sword with him. I'm thinking that maybe at the end, the sword brings Arthur back to his time to rule, but for some reason Catherine/Elisabeth/Joan couldn't travel with the sword (fighting off bad guys? sword isn't strong enough?), and instead falls through the portal he left behind appears in a different time.
I'm thinking that her name will be Joan, and she'll appear in 1300's France. Heh heh heh.... or is that too much?? It could set the ground for a sequel...
Now here it what I need to know... (sorry I wrote so much, give yourself a pat on the back if you stuck through all of that) Would you read something like that? Do you think it would have potential? Is it too, uh, Dr. Who-ish? cliche?
Also, feel free to ask questions about how certain parts of the story will go. I left a lot of open places in the middle of the plot so that my characters (once their personalities are developed) can determine their own fate. That tends to happen.
Why am I asking you guys? Why am I posting this on a role-playing site, instead of facebook or a blog? Well, simply because after being here for a couple of months, I really value all of your opinions. There are plenty of amazing writers on here.
That is all. <3
