Friends
Meeting and knowing new people is the spice of life. So friends must be the really good stuff, like cinnamon and sugar or whatever they put on blackened chicken. Jacob isn't too picky when it comes to his friends. Sure, he might have an inner circle of buddies he grew up with or people he really gets along with, but there isn't that high of a bar to be considered a friend of his.
Friends mean more than allies or drinking buddies. Friends are people you can connect with and learn more about the world through. Friends are people you can share your inner self with in confidence. Friends make you do crazy new things and also keep your sanity in check.
Acquaintances
Sometimes there are just people you meet and know, but the relationship never really goes anywhere. It's not a bad thing, sometimes you just lack the time or interest to invest in them. Co-workers tend to fall in this category. On rarer occasionas, these are the people you choose to not to get to know for something or other.
Un-Friends
The word "Enemy" gets thrown around way too much when people really just mean other people they just don't like. "Enemy" implies someone whom actively antagonizes and works against you specifically, not just people who annoy or upset you. Not to say that there aren't "Enemies", but Jacob reserves that title for people who actually fit the criterion.
Otherwise, these are people that, for whatever reason, Jacob doesn't like. These are people he just can't stand to be around, or people whom he just can't find any compromise or consensus with. Jacob will sometimes try to reconcile these differences and actually try to improve the relationship, but it's a two way street. If the other person can't work at it, neither can Jacob.
Intimates
Jacob was one hell of a horndog in his youth, in the purest sense. He loved sex and didn't involve himself in more meaningful relationships, until he met Cassandra. However that... never came to fruition and ever since then, Jacob's activity in the romantic arts has diminished. He still got his rocks off every now and then but nothing serious has ever developed.
As much as his heart longs for Cassandra, it's been years and he wouldn't object to try to get to know a woman more intimately. Hell, he would enjoy it. But he's no teenager anymore and his tastes are, obviously, far less superficial. For the most part, he just needs to put himself out there.
Family
Issac, Jacob's father, is his only parent and one of his best friends. The two are very close, willing to share their deepest concerns and most annoying grievances, and an insult to his father is an insult to Issac. As for his mother, Jacob is ambivalent. He doesn't know a thing about her and doesn't feel anything towards her. He doesn't resent her nor does he have any desire to meet her. She might as well be a complete stranger.
