If pressed to tell what he thought was his most exceptional ability, in polite company of course, Jacob would have to say his ability to provide one hell of a Massage |
✖ Personality
There's no simple way to describe Mr. Cunningham, as is the case with most people. Outwardly, Jacob is a very extroverted man with a love of life and people. In his youth, he was a wild child and an unruly teen, but his pace in life has slowed somewhat. Somewhat. Jacob's wild streak has, more or less, been tempered with age. What has not been dulled over the years is an innate curiosity for understanding and a sarcastic wit that has grown more jaded over the years. Speaking of jaded, as a highschool teacher, Jacob has witnessed and intervened in more than his fair share of teenage drama and now that he is on the other side of the fence, he finally gets why adults can get sick of teens so quickly. Not to say that he won't try to understand and do his duties as a responsible adult.[/b][/u]
Of course, not everything is optimism and vitality for Jacob. One thing he prefers to hide about himself is a sense of loneliness. It's not crippling or depressing. It's just that he feels the only, and first, woman he ever loved left him. Ever since then, he just cannot muster the energy to get back into the dating scene. So it's been years since he's felt the touch of a woman and even longer since he has been in any kind of a serious relationship. It would not be any stretch of the imagination to say that Jacob can occasionally find himself afflicted with wandering eyes, lustful thoughts, and typical male urges. It would seem that not all of his wild oats had been sown while he was younger. Good thing he possesses a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to the art physical intimacy, after having been quite the man-about-town in his youth.
Jacob's personal outlook on life could be described as a mix of pragmatism and optimism, as strange as that may sound. He knows that life has its lows and it can sometimes be a bitch, but that should not let a person be so beaten-down that they become angry, resentful, and full of hate. To live a life of vengeance or resentment or to brood and ruminate on the past just does not seem like a way to live one's life. Jacob does his best to understand, and to try and make them not such a killjoy, but that doesn't mean he'll like everyone. Sometimes there are just jerks you don't like, or unlikable adults who never grew out of their teenage years.

✖ Appearance
Standing at five foot-eleven inches, Jacob is mildly tall, and the confident way he carries himself can sometimes make him seem taller. His body is one that he is quietly proud of, to the point of seeming coy about it. Raised on a farm, and working on it, Jacob has a well-defined and muscular physique. He's not bulky, but he's not skinny and lean. Jacob would not be out-of-place in an ad for designer jeans, assuming he was oiled-up. His skin has a medium tan and is typically maintained by his habit of exercising outdoors with only minor scars from the rigors of being a stupid teenage boy.
He has two distinguishing marks, both of which most people will not see unless he is less-dressed than normal. On his upper left arm is a tattoo of what looks to be a flaming snake skeleton coiled around the words "The North Sea", which was a band he and his friends tried starting when he was younger. The other is another tattoo, this time situated below and to-the-left of his navel. You'll never see it unless his pants are riding low or he's undressing. It's the "Yang" half of the Yin-Yang symbol.
Jacob's hair is a dark brown, black under certain lights, and is usually kept long to just under his ears if left down and slightly longer in the back. He keeps it styled simply or not at all. His face is youthful but strong with gentle green eyes.
Despite being a boy from the country, Jacob likes to keep himself looking good and dapper. Sure he has the usual collection of jeans, t-shirts, and regular shirts. But most of the time he shows a preference for nice pants and shoes, collared shirts, vests, and the occasional tie.
✖ History
Jacob was born on a farm in a rural area outside of a major city. He usually says he was born to a single father, but that is not entirely true. When he was born, he in fact did have a mother and father, obviously, and when he was about three years old, his mother left. His father often described it as very sudden and not too surprising when he thought about it. One day he woke up and found a note for him reading, "This just isn't the life for me. I'm sorry. Don't come looking for me." Jacob was too young to remember this event, or even what his mother looked like. Despite that, his father tried to raise the boy as best as he could, and he did well considering what Jacob would grow up to be like.
Jacob was indeed a hard worker, a reflection of his father; however he was also... a wild child. In his adolescence, Jacob was prone to sneaking out at night to whatever his friends were doing or just to cause some trouble. Combine that with raging hormones and a body crafted by field work... let’s just say he was popular with the girls and his father would occasionally have to bail his son out of trouble after a girl's father found him. But no matter how much trouble he got into, Jacob and his father remained close.
Then one day when he was twenty one, something happened that he thought would never happen: He fell in love. He fell in love with a city girl named Cassandra, whom was living out in the country in a big new home that had been built recently. It wasn't exactly a storybook meeting. Jacob had actually put the moves on her like any other girl and, after their first *ahem* meeting, he found himself unable to just end it like that. His heart called out to her like no other, and he tentatively tried to start a real relationship with her. Cassandra was happy to do so. Her straight-laced, proper personality apparently was a perfect match for his down-to-earth and wild attitude.
Needless to say, they fell in love together over the course of a few years. Jacob's father was proud that Cassie was settling Jacob down and tempering his youthful nature. Cassie's father, while stern, expected Jacob to treat her right and gave them his blessing. Cassie's mother... not so much. There was tension with her mother. A lot of tension. She pretty much ran the family and made no secret that she did not approve of her daughter associating with a country boy like Jacob, with no higher education or pedigree to his name, and even less so when they eventually found out that Jacob had taken their daughter’s virginity. Despite Cassandra’s protests, Jacob’s steadfast pleas, and both fathers trying to persuade her, it all came to an end. In a not-so-storybook ending, Cassie’s mother up and moved the family to somewhere else, far away from Jacob and left no means of contact. It was probably the first time in his life that Jacob’s father saw his son so broken.
It would take some time before Jacob got over Cassandra with no small amount of help from his father, but he eventually pulled himself out of that pit and started getting back into the pace of life, only with less spring in his step. Spurred by the comments of Cassie’s mother, Jacob’s father dug deep and made him go to college for some kind of degree. At first he was reluctant to do much of anything but between the encouragements and naggings from his parent, there was no way he could not do it.
While there, away from the farm and away from his father, Jacob found a new spark for life, or at least found enough distractions to keep his mind off the girl he loved. There were new things to learn and experience, new people to talk to, new girls to sleep with, and a couple boyfriends to piss off. In time, Jacob found a love of history and focused on getting his degree in that, along with deciding to become a teacher. By this time, it was as important as ever to know about and learn from history since the outbreak, since so few young people were even the least bit willing to learn from the past or make a better future for themselves and others.
✖ Example
"Don't worry, Thompson. Jacob's going to get it once we get back home... Of course, if Maria should develop... something, he will definitely take responsibility... It'll be fine. Don't worry. We're going."
Sitting in the front seat of his father's old pickup, putting his shirt back over his head after finally getting his pants back on, Jacob was finishing up his part of a routine that he had gone through many times before. It all followed the same basic steps. First, he would be getting frisky with a girl in her own bedroom, which should be enough to tell any casual observer what the successive steps in this process were. Then, typically with his pants undone and the girl nearing perdition, her dad would barge-in. Words and screaming ensue, perhaps some fists would be thrown, and Jacob would end up outside a window in his underpants. His father would be called to pick him up and the girl, this time named Maria, would be pleading with her dad to not gut Jacob like any number of wild fauna.
Right now, they were finishing up the steps where Jacob's father, Issac, would do his usual apologizing thing while Jacob gets dressed in the truck. At this point, Jacob wondered if his dad even meant the words he was reciting. Sure, he probably meant them the first couple times he was caught with a girl, but now?
"Alright, boy, you can add another girl you're not allowed within a hundred feet of to the list."
Jacob could hear the front door to Maria's house slam shut from where the truck was parked just as Issac hopped-in behind the wheel. The words he spoke were of mild irritation, not anger or disappointment. Like he was more upset that he had to drive out so late than the fact that his son was caught inside yet another girl.
"You at least remembered to wear a rubber, right?"
"Course, Dad. I ain't an idiot."
Issac just rolled his eyes as they started off down the road back to home. Though the situation would, under normal circumstances with a normal family, call for lots of lecturing, yelling, and threats, these two were driving off in fairly good moods.
"So what's that make? Third time this month? I tell ya, son, you either got to learn to keep it in your pants more, or learn to be better at hidin' your antics. Preferably the former."
"But she suggested it! And how could I turn down those tits? Did you see 'em?!"
Issac actually chuckled a bit.
"Yeah. I glimpsed 'em. That girl's got back problems in her future."
"See?! And man, you shoulda seen her when sh-"
"Jacob."
Before he was about to go off on how she looked when she was doing something or other, Jacob was stopped by the stern voice of his father. It was a tone he had not heard in awhile. Even if Jacob was an unruly and horny young man, he still respected his father and knew when to let the man talk.
"I know that you think this is funny, but I'm being serious when I say that I'm getting kinda sick of bailing your behind out of this situation over and over.
I know none of these girls have gotten pregnant, thank God, and no one has gotten hurt yet, but this does not make us look good, Jacob. You're a good boy."
"And you're, like, the best guy in town, dad."
"Yeah? Well, because you stickin' it in everyone's daughter, I keep getting these evil eyes everywhere I go."
Jacob's expression suddenly turned concerned. His father was looking straight ahead, straight-faced and serious. This was the first time he had heard about this happening to his dad.
"Now I ain't a man to let the looks of some folks get to me. Hell, what do they know? I pay my bills and work the fields like an honest man, and I know it. But it's gettin' hard, Jacob. I know you're not a bad kid, but your reputation is spilling over."
For awhile, Jacob couldn't muster up anything to say. Instead he just stared at his father, whom didn't look back and they sat in silence for a minute. His dad was his only family and he had done his best to raise a good young man, and he had succeeded for the most part. But between single parenthood and farm work, Issac could not keep track of his son all the time nor teach him some necessary life lessons in the proper manner.
"I-I didn't know, dad. I'm sorry..."
Issac sighed, but reached over and patted his son on the shoulder.
"Just be more careful, and settle down on the girls, okay? I love ya, son."
"I will, dad."
"Also you're gonna clean the stables as punishment."
"WHAT?!"
"Hey, I didn't say you were getting off scot-free."
