"Is there something I can help you with, sir?"

Navvi didn't answer immediately.

"No."

The lone salewoman looked a little confused and aggravated by Navvi's simple, no frills answer. She had kind of expected him to not JUST refuse her offer for assistance. She was expecting him to start making excuses as to why he had been standing in front of their clothes boutique, staring into the front windows, for nearly an hour. Their best guess was that he was some kind of pervert, and that having someone come out and talk to him would be enough to drive him away.

"Well, can I ask you to move along if you're not going to buy anything, sir?"

"Yes."

It continued to stand there, not even looking at the saleswoman or really anything in particular. Really, Navvi was just doing what it assumed it was supposed to do in that context. People seemed to stop and look at whatever was in the storefront windows, so that's what it did. When Navvi didn't move at all, taking her question literally as a question as to the ability of her to just ask the question, the woman got visibly agitated.

"Sir! Are you going to move or am I going to have to call security?!"

"Are you requesting that this one vacate the immediate premises?"

"Yes! Yes, I am!"

"Then this one will comply."

With that, Navvi turned an even ninety degrees from where it had been standing and walked off without even looking at the infuriated woman or acknowledging that it had really done anything wrong. A gruff sigh was heard behind it from the woman, whom just stomped back into the boutique, happy that Navvi had got on its way.

"Navvi, repeat back your orders"

"This one is to enter this particular institution, which shall be called 'The Mall', and attempt to assimilate into the general populace as serrupticiously as possible. Secondary objective is to record general behaviors and simluate said behaviors. This one is to continue persuing these objectives until retrieved."

"What if you encounter any possible Non-Humans as defined by the DNCS?"

"This one is to observe and not engage in any capture procedures."

"Good. Commence operation in T-minus five minutes."

Navvi was left on the sidewalk around the corner from an entrance to the mall as an unmarked utility van pulled away and out of sight. Inside the van were a couple of Navvi's technicians whom had brought the Android out into this public area for semi-autonomous testing. Just as it was order, Navvi waited where it stood, silent and unmoving, for five minutes before it turned and headed into the mall.

Cecilia sighed, her eyes narrowed an annoyance. “You’ve asked me a thousand times. Yes, I’ll be fine at the mall.” Cecilia sighed, her head whipped over to the younger officer, whose name is Bella Rhodes, her blue eyes shown with concern to her retired senior. “Let’s just say this is practice.” Her voice became low, a smirk crossed her face. This reaction of course was different than what she would give a stranger; it was fun just like her old self. Rhodes gripped onto the steering wheel; they were of course parked in front of the mall, the disable card hung from the rear view mirror. Cecilia sat and waited for the engine to cut, showing she could get out safely without the nervous cop driving off. Which that did happen, the driver’s door opened up, so Cecilia followed suit and got out herself, using her long cane to help her out, she might be able to see but her sense were a little out of whack because of the car ride. Today was a rare day for her to go and have someone driving her somewhere. Cecilia took in a deep breath, tasting the warm air, feeling the busy buzz around her of people walking and talking, excited to go to the mall. Rhodes next to her, Cecilia followed her movement, when Rhodes stopped she would stop and wait until the young officer moved once more. They never noticed the new DNCS bot model when going inside, but he was standing there, waiting with his orders to move in. Once inside, Cecilia once more calmed the nervous woman and both parted ways; this was a good exercise for Cecilia to improve her blindsight. The way she saw things were the outlines of people in a shade of dark grey, the vibrations she would get from both her own movement and theirs were white. Her own senses went wild, she smelt the food from the food court, and murmurs were almost like the people were talking to her directly, as for touch, well Cecilia would keep her hands to herself. Cecilia kept her cane to herself, using her sense to help her out more than that stick. Some people stared, even though she couldn’t see them but felt it, kind of like you passed by a group of people who suddenly went to inspect who you were but you didn’t want to look at them in return, but their gazes were heavy; yeah, that’s what Cecilia felt. Cecilia then founded herself in front of a quieter part of the mall. There seemed to be an argument, no that wasn’t the right term, more like misunderstanding. That didn’t feel like the right term, but the man seemed to be challenging a worker, if it escalated she could simmer it down by saying she was cop, but then exposing herself was for last resort. The man moved, it seemed unnatural, but it was sharp movement, Cecilia’s dark eyes flickered about nervously, he moved as if programmed to do so. Whatever he was it wasn’t right; as he passed her, she snapped her head to side, the force making her turn around on her heels as she watched him walk away. She could’ve barked something to him, but it would cause danger to her and the people here. She should challenge him. The long cane that was parallel to the ground finally fell down, she felt it tap the ground, the white vibration rings moved out. If there was going to be fight, she would be ready. "Excuse this one, ma'am."

Navvi halted movement not too far from the woman, easily within earshot of her, and turned around to face her. There was a certain unnaturalness to its the way it moved. Its individual movement were fluid and organic, very much unlike any other kind of machine, but the entire package was very unsettling. There were no extraneous motions in the way it moved, and it tended to make very exacting movements.

"Please clarify, are you subject 2259?"

Another strange thing about Navvi, other than its tendency to refer to itself as "this one", is that it never actually looked at anyone it was talking to. It looked in their general direction, but it never made eye contact unless the other person looked into Navvi's cold, corpse-like eyes on purpose. That was one of the failings of Navvi's designers. They never got its eyes right.

The woman Navvi had passed had been programmed into its existing database beforehand from the few profiles that already existed on hand. But even Navvi was aware that this particular subject's profile might have been out of date, so that's why it was asking that question.

If the woman was scared that Navvi would somehow report her presence to its operators, it was a false sense of fear. The complexity of Navvi's programming made it way too risky to allow it any kind of wireless communication outside of specially modified short range signals that only its operators possessed. It would, however, record the situation for later analysis back in the lab.
