The young teen wandered aimlessly through the mall, wearing a light over-sized jacket with sleeves that extended way past his hands, this matched with his short stature only making him appear more childish and innocent. Of course that was essentially the plan since he was on a mission today. This mission? To observe and report. He was here looking for any sign of mutants and for some reason his superiors thought this would be a good place to look since most young teens liked to hang out in this place. This would make it ideal hunting grounds if that were the case.
Of course, now he was starting to wonder if they had just said that to send him here. He didn't find this fun. It was more like torture. He honestly didn't see the fun in roaming around in such a crowded and noisy place. Then again, he never really had the chance to just go here to try out having fun so it was rather foreign to him. Actually if you want to be technical, anything considered fun was pretty foreign to him as well now. His childhood was kind of stolen from him. He sighed at the thought. This wasn't the time to think about stupid stuff like that. No. Whether he liked it or not, now was the time to complete his mission. Otherwise he was sure they wouldn't hesitate to shock him as a reminded.
He rolled his eyes at the thought, looking down to the metallic collar that was successfully hidden by the jacket. Just a press of a button back at the agency and he'd be shocked with enough bolts to subdue him. He just hoped they had the decency not to do such a thing out in public like this. It would be pretty stupid of them. Then again, it was stupid of him to be wearing this jacket in summer. He didn't have much of a choice however. While it kept the collar hidden, it also kept the various scars he received from the experiments hidden as well to avoid any attention or questions. He'd simply have to deal. It was what he had grown to accept over these years.
He escaped from his hiding spot within the bathrooms, making his way out into the depths of the mall with a cheerful and excited smile on his face, looking like any other child excited to see what wonders he could find within the many stores. He was quite the actor. You couldn't even tell he was inwardly cursing himself and his damned superiors for making him look so damn foolish. No, instead you only found the innocent persona he managed to portray so well. He just hoped he wouldn't have to actually interact with anyone. That was the worst part. He hated all the "Oh you're so cute." and "How adorable!" comments. He didn't know why. They just pissed him off to no end. Especially when the occasional short comment came along. Oh how much he'd love to kick the unfortunate victims ass for calling him short.
"I wonder what I'll find today." he spoke to himself, the question seeming innocent enough for anyone that might have heard despite the real meaning behind it. It was his curiosity about what potential mutants he can find and more than likely meet back at the labs. It would be nice to have enough experiments so he wouldn't have to be used as much anymore.

Fabian was not lost.
Fabian did not get lost.
Men did not get lost.
He was just a little confused as to how he ended up...here. Wherever here was. He'd taken the correct streets for the last 30 minutes, and had turned right at that coffee shop, and then turned left at the cafe with the unicorn on the sign, but maybe he was supposed to turn right there too. He wasn't really paying attention when a sympathetic passer-by gave him the directions to the mall that he had had previously little interest in entering. There had been some really cool show on the TV behind the glass in that one shop about a time machine telephone booth or something, and once the TV was on, there was no reaching Fabian.
He hated shopping, after all, and come to think of it he had no idea what had possessed him to feel the desire to attempt to find the shopping centre at all. So here he was, completely confused and disorientated, standing amid a small crowd of younger girls obsessing over what looked to him as a formal dress that had once looked relatively attractive, and then somebody had felt the desire to attack it with a pair of shears, considering how it seemed to lie in tatters in places; namely around the chest, he noted silently, not at all taking any form of interest in the girls themselves. They were far too young for him, anyway, him being barely out of highschool himself. He had long-since settled for wandering down the alley until somebody he knew decided to call him, which after three hours of wandering past various stores didn't seem to be working out for him, and if he was honest with himself he was beginning to to become rather irritated.
He stopped in a couple of shops and read a few tabloids at a corner convenience store, bought some candy, which he decided was amazing, and then stopped in front of the toilets with a slight frown upon his face as he attempted to work out exactly why he had decided to stop right there, completely immune to the various irriated glances from those who nearly walked directly into him when he abruptly came to a halt for no apparent reason other than to annoy them.
Glancing around momentarily for nothing in particular, his barely interested gaze wandered from one side to the other without truly taking anything in, as he moved to the side a little to lean against the wall, folding his arms absently as he did so, simply for the sake of doing something, although soon found himself taking his glasses off instead, cleaning them on the end of his jacket for lack of anything better to do. And then he moved for his pockets, pulling out a cell phone that he then assumed the task of fiddling mindlessly with it, apparently unable to simply stand still for a mere minute without feeling the need to do something, anything, simply for the sake of doing it.
He went on as such for an uncertain length of time before his gaze finally settled upon the face of an apparently rather young boy who seemed to, in his opinion, stand out like a sore thumb what with his choice of clothing that seemed to imply that it was the middle of winter rather than a moderately pleasant day in summer, and then there was that considerable height difference that made him look as though perhaps he ought to have a parent standing nearby, or even holding his hand.
Despite himself, the youth couldn't help but smile at the thought, completely oblivious to everybody else in the vicinity as he reaised his voice to be heard above the general hubub, "Hey, kid. Y'know where the mall is?"

He could barely stand it already and the fact he hadn't really started yet made chances of getting through the day without losing it seemed pretty low. But maybe that was because of his harsh feelings after coming to the conclusion that this had to be merely a way for the scientists back at the labs to make him suffer more. Okay... Chances of that being likely was very low. They were evil but they didn't just do things for fun. And if they wanted to punish him for something they would have certainly performed some painful experiments on him. Actually if that were the case, maybe he'd prefer being trapped here for the day.
He sighed as he walked out, noting the angered faces of a few who walked by till he noticed the man leaning against the wall. He was simply messing with his phone from what he'd seen. So what were they so angry about? He wasn't sure but instead of idling around, he made his way over to the nearby fountain, sitting down and secretly examining him from there where he wouldn't seem so suspicious. There had to be some reason everyone seemed to be paying attention to him right?
It wasn't easy to call out a mutant. There wasn't much physical alterations that set them apart if any at all. The only way was of course by witnessing their powers first hand. Or if you had the materials, you could check their DNA. But he wasn't in the position to do that. All he could do was examine them and try to note any suspicious activity to report back to the agency. Of course he could challenge him to a fight but not only was their too many witnesses but he was specifically told not to fight while he was out here. Much to his demise.
So far, this guy seemed pretty normal. At least by most human standards. But he found the guy kind of suspicious. He couldn't seem to stay still and the fact he was just randomly standing their confused him a bit. So he decided the best way to determine, as much as he hated the idea, was to try and confront him first hand and see what all he could learn about him. So with that in mind, he stood up and made his way over to him, looking shy and nervous as he rubbed his arm in an awkward manner.
"Uhm.... Excuse me?" he began, looking up to him with innocent looking eyes as he bit his lip slightly. "I don't mean to bother you but could you help me? I'm kind of lost..." he spoke, diverting his eyes as if embarrassed by admitting such a thing. Being so short and looking so young managed to work in his favor sometimes. He could pull off this lost child look pretty easy. Just another thing he really hated to admit. This wasn't exactly the best thing to be proud of. But it worked so he couldn't complain too much.

Fabian smirked, glad to have, in his mind, caught the boy's attention, having glanced away absently for a moment and by the time he had looked back the boy had been nowhere to be seen. Shrugging, he had assumed that he had simply scuttled away in fear of 'stranger danger,' or whatever it was that they told the kids nowadays, and yet as he looked up he finally spotted the little boy as he called out to him, as he approached him. He smiled, only a bit, as he moved to stand properly.
"Sure kid, what's up?"
A small, half-hearted laugh escaped him as he pulled his jacket together, simply for the sake of it, and put his phone back into his pocket. He stood there, silent for a moment, and scratched his head before smoothing out his hair, and stopped abruptly as soon as he realized what he was doing, a slightly awkward smile playing across his features. He hadn’t even thought of the possibility that, if he annoyed him to the extent of unbearability, he might just drive the kid away. Then again, he deserved that. Why should anyone listen to him, anyway? He couldn't even get himself to the mall by himself, being as incompetent as he was. He sighed again, trying to think of something to cover up the silence. “So, uh...” he started, “Where'd you need to be? I pretty much know my way 'round like the back of my hand, so... yeah!” Before, the only part of himm with any common sense at allsome small, small part of him might've possibly admitted that this claim was far from the truth, however he assumed afterwards that he must've forgotten, and as usual speaking aloud seemed to help him make sense of his thoughts, or rather enough to acknowledge as a wave of recognition passed momentarily over his features that what he had said was, in fact, true and he hoped that the statement would help ease the boy’s idea of Fabian in general, as judging by the way he was averting his gaze, and that face of his looked, frankly, almost terrified to simply be standing there. It was probably his apparent complete lack of confidence as well as the fact that the boy was clearly in the deep end here, there was simply something about that kid that he just couldn't ignore. It'd just seem cruel to walk off now, leaving this seemingly desperate kid to continue to attempt to find his way alone. It was easy enough, after all, to get yourself lost around the city with a group of friends, let alone by yourself. By the look of him, he wouldn't stand a chance by himself.
“What's a kid like you doing wandering 'round here alone, anyway?” He laughed, moving a step forward to clapped a hand on his shoulder in what, in his eyes anyway, was a friendly gesture. “What're you, like 12? Lost your mom, huh?”

He wasn't totally helpless, sure. But that didn't mean that this guy wasn't a mutant and had powers that could potentially kill him if he so wanted. He actually kind of wished he had a weapon on him now that he thought about it. But he was deprived of that stuff when he left the agency this morning since this mission didn't require violence. Oh well. If worst comes to worst he'd find a way out of it.
Well... There was the first 'kid' from this guy. Expected but undesired. At least personally. For this mission of his it was a little success into gaining someone's trust. How could you not trust a sweet innocent looking kid? He seemed pretty friendly though for the most part if not a little strange still. Especially when he started acting awkward and kept himself busy while waiting for his answer. Just watching his behavior almost made him forget what he was doing till he spoke again. Well, this would be the point where his excellent acting came in to come up with a believable story.
This guy was willing to help out which he appreciated. He looked pretty young still. Older people would definitely help out a lost child but teens had a tendency to try to tease or harm him when he put on this act. Just another reason why he hated acting like this he supposed. A couple of teens had teased him and called him a baby. It took all his willpower to not kick their asses then and there. "I... I-I don't know..." he admitted sheepishly, head slightly lowered in defeat. He really had no help on this one. There wasn't anyone from the government here that he knew of that could help him play off this little game. He'd try and have to come up with a reasonable excuse.
It didn't take long for the 'kid' thing to come up again as he asked him what he was doing alone. His head was still lowered when he suddenly felt the hand on his shoulder, his body instinctively tensing up. He didn't like being touched. It always meant he was being punished or experimented on (then again, what was the difference between the two?). This bit of contact seemed different though and he managed to calm down slightly, perhaps able to play it off as a bit of a scare from an extremely shy kid. He finally was about to look up to him again when he went further to guess his age and claim he'd lost his mother.
Fucking hell.
It was one of those moments he had to keep his temper in check and not yell at the man for making the grave mistake of pointing out his most hated features. He managed to keep a bit calm though, thankful his long sleeves kept his clenched fists hidden. He simply nodded at first, trying to gain his innocent voice again before finally playing along. "Yeah... She told me to wait out here and she'd meet me once she finished her shopping... That was a couple of hours ago." he spoke, voice sounding disheartened as he frowned.
"I went to look for her and I couldn't find her. And then I got lost in here. And I don't know what to do anymore...." he spoke, the words coming out quick and almost pained as if the desperate child was losing hope of finding her again. Ironic, huh? Considering he was an orphan. Oh, how he hated acting like this. He was just glad no one he knew was around to witness it.

If he cared a little less about his own pride, he would've sworn to anybody that he would've hugged that kid, there and then. That desperate look on his face was enough to cause one's heart to lurch, to feel the urge to reach out to him and offer their full assistance. And even though he wasn't one for such lovey-dovey scenes, and as much as a part of his didn't want to admit to it at all, similar thoughts entered the youth's mind as he put on his friendliest smile, attempting to at least ease some of the youngster's quickly growing sense of uneasiness. Even he had to admit that the kid was rather adorable, and of course could sympathize with him in his current situation, having found himself in similar ones himself countless times in the past. Considering that he now seemed to possess a virtually complete map of the area in the back of his mind, it would be only natural that he do what he could, after all, although him being as far from a 'responsible adult' as you could possibly get, he was completely clueless as to what exactly was best to do, which posed as an obvious problem in his mind. After all, the boy would surely expect him to do something othrr than stand there, and so for once in his uneventful life he felt that he was somewhat responsible for his welfare, being the older of the two, which in itself was a pleasant, but odd, sensation. Still, despite his good intentions he still was clueless, and the vague response that he recieved was far from helpful.
With a sigh, he chortled almost to himself, releasing his hold on this sholder in favour of fiddling mindlessly with a sweet wrapper in his pocket as he looked down into that small, childlike face, seemingly stricken with worry, and couldn't help but be reminded of a younger, albeit quieter, version of himself, completely oblivious as he was to the other's reaction after his shoulder being touched, or the deep sense of irritation welling up inside the kid. Fabian had always been the mindlessly trusting, guillable even, type after all, which in itself was ironic considering that he himself wouldn't hesitate to lie himself out of an unwanted situation.
The boy's reaction, though, that embarrassed response, did nothing but cause him to want to do something for him all the more, although a part of him hoped that the other despite his age would be able to tell him how.
"Ah, 's ok, kid," he found himself saying despite this, patting him on the back after a momentary hesitation that he hoped would go unnoticed to the boy, "We'll sort somethin' out sure enough, yeah? Y'know where you might've...I dunno... seen her last...? " If he was honest with himself, even he was getting desperate now, completely at a loss as to what to do, but not at all willing to just do nothing. He frowned, thinking over what he'd said, wondering whether it was a sufficient response, quickly adding, "...Or I could walk you back to your place, if you want? Might help a little more, I guess...?"
Completely at a loss as to what else to say, he found himself shuffling his feet absently, once again lapsing into one of his awkward silences as he attempting to organize his thoughts at least enough to help this clearly terrified kid who had made the decision, a horrible one really, in his moment of desperation to approach him for some form of help. And so he must at least have some way to help.
After a few moments of adjusting his weight from one foot to another, scuffing his shoes as he shuffled his feet and fiddling relentlessly, Fabian grasped at the one remotely non-nonsensical thought that entered his otherwise vacant mind, and despite knowing exactly how absolutely idiotic it would sound to anybody who wasn't a pre-schooler (which he obviously wasn't), he found himself opening his mouth for lack of ability to think up anything else to be said at that time, and could only console himself with the fact that it was at least some form of half-truth as he put on another, seemingly more genuine smile and ducked his head down to his height. Honestly, by this point he was just willing to say anything that even had the potential to sound slightly good, otherwise he'd still be standing there in silence, waiting for the boy himself to come up with an idea. It'd havr been a start, anyway.
"Y'know what? It's weird, but I've always noticed," he began, feeling more stupid by the minute, "and this is gonna sound kind weird but I swear I've got this ton of good luck, right? I mean, it's kinda like sometimes, if I say somethin' that I really want to be true, it comes like, real, yanno?" He was about ready to slap himself for his complete idiocy, he swore. If it sounded odd to him, he could only imagine how completely obscure it sounded to the kid. Hell, he was probably wondering about his mental stability right now."...And I'm not even kidding, sometimes when I went to school the teacher believed all my stupid excuses why I didn't do my homework. She mus've thought my dog liked eating paper a lot...But anyway it's kinda like it comes real when I say it, so maybe we can...I dunno...Find your mom like that..?"
He frowned, all too aware that what he had just said was a load of gibberish as he rose back up to his full height, utterly perplexed as to what had possessed him to say something quite so insanely, idiotically pointless. It was humiliating, rerally, and tjis sudden lack of confidence in anything at all was completely alien to him, and he couldn't help but think that there was something about this kid that put him on edge, to the extent that his usual overly self-assured, loud and overly confident self seemed to have disappeared along with the boy's mother.
"Uhh...I'm Fabian, by the way...?"

The little contact to his shoulder was bad enough, he wasn't even sure himself how he'd react to something like that. But thankfully that wasn't an issue and he barely noticed much of any effect he had on this stranger. Other than the fact that he of course had him seemingly willing to try and help him out. Worked out for him. It would make the job easier. So as long as he didn't try anything stupid. He pushed that thought aside though, catching that smile which he was sure was supposed to be comforting but only confused the boy which was evident for a split second before he released his shoulder.
With the assuring words and the unexpected pat to the back, Felix simply stood there, arms lowered to his side as comfortably as he could manage before he gave a softened smile, seeming a little calmer about the situation. Which was partially true. It seemed he had this guy convinced and it shouldn't be too hard finding out what he wanted to know at this point. As long as he didn't figure out he was lying about all this.
Then came the time for excuses again when he tried to figure out ways to help this lost kid he was portraying. He could say the last time he saw her was inside of one of the many stores within the mall. The furthest from where they were just to give him enough time to examine. But even then he wasn't sure how the guy would react to the fact that they definitely wouldn't find a mother without their child there. Then he mentioned walking to his home and Felix automatically dropped that idea. He lived back at the agency. And he was sure they wouldn't appreciate him leading the guy there. Well if he was a mutant of course they would but he wasn't sure that was a fact or not yet.
He was silent, trying to come up with a really good excuse whenever he caught him ducking his head down, a fact that would have really pissed him off if he wasn't currently confused by the gesture. It was then he finally spoke and the boy hadn't expected a confession like this that soon. If that's what you could call it anyway. To anyone else, they would have clearly thought this guy was just trying to humor him or had seriously lost his mind. But Felix, being so used to supernatural abilities and mutants wasn't too surprised. This guy seemed to seriously believe he was capable of making things true just by thinking they were. It wasn't solid evidence but it gave Felix more motive to learn about this guy. Seemed like this day might just turn out to be not so useless after all.
"Really?" he spoke, sounding innocent and naive as usual when portraying himself like this, wanting a sure answer from him that he seriously believed he was capable of a power like that. Then of course he'd want to see it first hand and the guy was offering an example like it was nothing. "Well.... I don't know how it works but it sounds like a good idea." he admitted with a slightly hopeful smile once he saw the man frowning. Hey, he'd give him all the confidence he needed if it got him what he wanted.
Then he introduced himself and Felix was once again happy about it. He was making his job really easy. "Felix.." he offered back shyly as he stepped somewhat closer to show some form of trust to further play this guy into believing he was really desperate about finding this mom of his that didn't even exist.
"So what do we need to do?" he began, looking up to him with a confused look on his face. "Are you like a genie or something where I have to wish it?" he asked, sounding as naive as usual and still seeming to try and act childlike even though his question was actually serious. He wasn't sure if this ability of his was real and how it could even work. So the more he knew, the better he supposed.

Fabian pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose and grinned at the boy, taking a moment to study his unusual figure once again, in a vain attempt to hide his increasing sense of awkwardness, and after a respose such as the one he was given he was jst about ready to simply disappear, here and then to avoid further, deeper sense of humiliation that he was beginning to feel as a result of his own apparent stupidity. Attemptng to keep his mind off it for the time being, he mentally made a note to go to the optician, since his prescription seemed a bit off. It was probably all those hours in front of the computer screen, or maybe he was just tired. Since he was still so low on the food chain, he had long hours at strange times, and he probably did more than his fair share of work, but he was happy to do it all. ".....What? Uh.. no, i'm kinda more of a..uhh.. Y'know what? I-I dunno." He felt himself replying simply, eithout really thinking about it, shuffing his feet and starting to regret even saying anything at all to the kid, after all he was hardly a mature adult. Hell, he'd onlu just left home a few months previously and there he was thinking he could actually do something worthwhile for this kid. What was he thinking!?
Sighing, he dismissed the thought, if anything out of realization that the kid seemed to have noticed the last time he'd lapsed into silence, although in all honestly he didn't trust himslf to speak without further embarrasing himself. Honestly, by this point he wouldn't be surprised if the boy considered him to be a complete and utter nutcase, although his tone sounded so hopeful, as though perhaps he actually believed his claim, and considering that he didn't knw the first thing about kids, he couldn't be entirely sure whether, by dismissing is previous statement as complete nonsense, he would further disappoint him, as by now he must surely have unintentionally killed any hope that he might have had in terms of having Fabian help him find hs mother with his sheer stupidity.
"But..." he began hurriedly, finding that overused grin of his speading across his now flustered features once again as he struggled to string a sentence together that made any sense at all, "...I mean, I'm no genie but I guess it could work...? Like, I dunno....Batman or..somethin,' only he doesn't techniclly have any powers, I guess, but maybe... That make any sense..?" He laughed, a clear sense of uneasiness audible as e spoke despite his poor attempts to hide it with his usual overly exuberant attitude, which in his mind only made him sound as though he were completely insane, considering his previous claims to have what he could only imagine to be similar "mystical" powers to a genie, much like what the kid, Felix, had said, which of course was completely idiotic. "But seriously, ki-- ahh...Felix.....? Yeah, dude. I wanna help, y'know? So..uh.. I-I'm guessin' we need to go check out some stores, huh?" He shrugged. "Sound cool? Your mom here for shopping, yea? So we should..uhh.. go look for her and...stuff." He laughed once again, for lack of anything better to do and patted the boy a bit too roughly on the shoulder, with every intention to lead Felix around as many stores as it took to find his mother. After all, that was what those superheroes in the movies would do, right? If put into such a situation as his. And who was he to question the actions of the likes of Captain America or Superman?
However as he went to urn in the direction of the nearest store, expecting the kid to follow behind, the other seemed to have moved that much closer as to cause him to virtually walk into him before he could stop himself, taking a sharp intake of breath as his eyes seemed to widen in realization as well as the seemingly ever-increasing awwardness of it all, or rather in his mind anyway. "So..yea. That's all cool, we can go find her, right?"
Still, despite his vaious clear attempts to help, and assuming by the fact that the boy seemed to be feeling increasingly comfortable around him that they ere very much appreciated, he found himself with considerably more confidence than he had previously, but couldn't quite knock the feeling that maybe he hadn't exactly done too much to ease his worry on the subject, in terms of reassurance and whatnot, which incidentally was far from being one of his strong points. But still he was determined to at least do something other than babble on about the boy's mother, and as he thought he found himself absently reaching within the pocket of his jackt once again, this time to procure a can of drink that he had long since forgotten about, was just popping the top as he opened his mouth to speak, though without truly thinking about what exactly he was saying.
"So, I got this drink, right? See like, one minute you're all tired and worried 'n stuff, right," He made an overly exaggerated tired face, "And then have have the Red Bull and--" With the snap of his fingers and jerked his feet back and forth across the floor, doing what is commonly known as 'the Jerk,' "And then you're alive, man! It tastes awesome too." Fabian flashed the kid a thumbs up, "Y'know, Red Bull is practically a requirement for my line of work. How do you think I'm so energetic right now?" He let out a long obnoxiously loud laugh, not caring if it gave the sleep deprived shoppers around them a heart attack, assuming for a moment that they were indeed sleep deprived, he noted absently. "So..You want it? Might make you feel better, huh?"
