Why did this happen? Who were those people?
...How would he know?
Oh god, she'd recognized it.
Eli's mind started racing. Fuck. Fuck. She knew it was him. How? She must've known his voice... no one else would know his voice that well.
He looked in her bright eyes again. They didn't need to be here, surrounded by violence. And if people knew who he was, and they knew who she was... it wasn't even fair to her to be around him, without knowing what he was. They needed to leave this place, go somewhere where they could talk.
Food court? Maybe, but people would still be talking about the fire, about the shoot-out, about the guy who stopped the robbery. They'd be talking anywhere in the mall. They needed to be alone and at peace.
But then... but then it'd be awkward. His car was nice, yeah, but... would she be comfortable with that?
"We... should go..."
Not a chance. A cop came up to him.
"Hey. Any of you two might know who these guys were?"
Eli looked momentarily away, to the guy.
"No... Can we leave? It's a little... bloody." Not a lie.
"You know, we got security cameras," the mall cop said, adjusting his belt. Eli just stared at him expectantly. But the cop just gave a sort of coy smile and walked off. He kept investigating the scene but didn't look at the pair again.
Haha. Creepy. Anyway... he didn't want to hang around with all this death, with all the crying people were doing inside, people that had nervous attacks or maybe a fear of blood. Maybe shock at seeing two men die, two men that were no doubt bad... but did they deserve death?
"Seriously, Delilah... I gotta talk to you alone."

He said that they should go; where they going to talk about what just happen? That would be a good thing, so Delilah just nodded slowly but then looked up to see a cop move in their way. He was right, there were security cameras, Delilah didn’t know that one of the men had talked to Eliot, but they would see the action that he had done to them.
For a short moment it seemed like they were having a staring contest and Eliot had just won. The man gave a smirk to both of them, ignoring them afterwards, which was a good thing on both of their parts. Everything around her started to come back into focus, people were upset, crying, everything that a victim should act. Delilah looked at those people and then a crowd that had come to eye the area seeing if friends were inside the store. Seeing into those people’s thoughts, they were curious, upset, in wonder, everything a spectator to be like.
Once more, Eliot’s voice came in. “Ah, sure.” Her heart pounded. Was this going to be a bad thing? What she heard words like those from her parents; it typically meant she was in trouble because the only way to actually talk to her was in private.
They stepped past the group of people, a few news stations were now in position. Most eyed them before finally coming their way, asking what had happened. Delilah only shook her head, seeing the importance of talking to her friend.
She allowed Eliot to guide her to wherever they needed to be for their talk. The only conclusion Delilah thought today was that it was a sour day.

Okay. She was with him, and they were out of there. That was good. There was somewhere they needed to go, alone... most people would be either leaving or looking at the disaster zones. He walked until he found a bench where people weren't passing by, out on the west side of the mall.
He sat down, and sat her down as well on the cast-iron bench. Some of the black paint on it was flaking off, though the flakes must've been long swept up. A fake plant was on either side of the bench, and it acted as a sort of barrier. They were on the second floor, and the rail near them looked over a little plaza down on the first floor. Light shone in from the skylights above and bathed the place in a sort of relaxingly dim glow.
"I guess... you know," he said. "I don't know how. But I don't think I'm safe. People know who I am and... and..." he was at a loss for words. What was he trying to say? He didn't want her hurt? There was no reason to think that these guys had known who she was before they saw him walking with her... and even then was it best to freak her out? No. She'd be stressed, he'd be putting an awful fear in her heart, a burden on her.
"I... really like you, Delilah."
He--wait, what? Had he just said that?
"I've liked you as a friend for a long time--"
Why was he saying this? He didn't need to say that now. It was a bad time to say that, wasn't it? Or maybe it was good. Maybe she needed something to hold on to right now. Maybe it wasn't all him... she needed someone?
"But now... I see... us, and I think we could be more."
He was stressing out. He didn't mean to let it all spill out. He was starting to hesitate on his words, not sure of what he wanted to say, and in that confusion he forgot his subtlety.
"I guess what I mean is--can I kiss you?"
What an awful time to ask. Would she be offended? Would she even understand?

Delilah felt the coolness of the bench going through her caprice, her hands sat lightly on top of her lap and she looked up to Eliot. The scene was setting the mood up perfectly for a specific question, her face flushed up, everything was going so quickly.
Oh crap, if she knew that he knew that she figured out who he was, Eliot was going to ask how she knew. Her heart fluttered up but settles only a little as he continued with what he was say. She guessed by people it would be bad people like the ones who took over the store. But she could help no wait that would be risking even her neck. Her eyes flickered away when he stopped to think of what he was going to say. Wait, what would she say? Come Delilah say something in this situation, you would always say something.
He really like her, a small smile flickered on her face; she looked down to her lap. No wait, he took back his statement, of course they were too close as friends to be anything more. But today, today it felt like he proved himself to be something more. Eliot seemed to struggle with his feelings, he needed someone like her and maybe she needed someone like him; a sensible person to keep her grounded when her head went up into the clouds, to keep her happy and satisfied.
She looked up at him, a tenderness entered into her eyes. Could he really be asking her? Delilah’s face felt really hot now, her hands tightened up; guess they were both stressing about this, she was normally never this silent unless in class. But she waited for him to say it, just say those simple words, he could be the one, he was so close much closer than most other boys who would ask her out.
A kiss? Blunt and to the point, not the words she was looking for, but there was no disappointment, just pure amusement. Delilah took her hands and took one of his, she looked up to his face, her smile softened. Here were two messed up people both hoping to get into a relationship, one already had a price on their head but still went out head first into danger and the other didn’t have a care in the world searching for others like her, this could make for the perfect relationship.
“Yes.” She simply said, she raised one hand up to his cheek; were they even going to do this correctly, it was her first kiss, but was it his? Delilah scooted up closely to him; her leg was touching his, everything dimming around her, now having no care. This was like a moment she waited forever, well to a sixteen year old it would feel like forever. Her lips hovered over his, feeling his warmth, her heart quaked in her chest.

It wasn't his first kiss, no, but he hadn't had a lot of opportunities in his life either. Only in the past year had he gotten his first, and he had found out that, really, it didn't matter that it was his first. When the human mind was fueled by hormones and emotion, and not ruled by logic and self doubt, it was capable of amazing things. But one had to loosen their inhibitions and let their simian, primal nature--their instinct--take over.
She knew, yeah, but she didn't seem to care. Neither did he. Honestly at this point he was excited more by finding out his attraction was mutual than by being a targeted caped crusader. So he decided they might as well go along with it. He tenderly moved his hand around to the small of her back so he could turn her towards him a little more. Kissing side by side could be a little awkward. With his other hand he brushed a stray hair off her face, smiled, and went for it.
Time sort of seemed to stop. It was like fireworks went off in his mind, making this contact with her, suddenly a rush of emotions and feelings that were down to basic human chemistry, his brain telling him this was a damn good girl. The sunlight that came in from the top windows of the mall seemed to get brighter. It was like he had been looking around the room and feeling in a certain way, but then before and during the kiss, he looked at her and everything was different, and he loved it.
Loved it. Maybe. God maybe, there were butterflies in his stomach as he kissed her, and then their first kiss was done and he withdrew from it and looked in her eyes, half closed, suggestive, and then he drew in again and kissed her, pulling her closer to him, and the flutter came back and spread through his stomach to his chest, his heart beating so he could feel it in his ears, so that all sound was just replaced by pure bliss, bells ringing, birds singing.
After it was done he looked at her again and said, sure of himself now, "I want to be with you, Delilah. More than as your friend.. Your boyfriend."

His touch lingered were he brushed her hair away. It made her feel better that he too went in for the kiss or else she would’ve felt silly going for his request to only get shot down. When he came towards her, Delilah brought her other hand up, both moving for the back of his neck, this was spontaneous, like her nature, but also instinct, like the body knew this was a good thing.
Then there it was, the spark on the lips, as if it was too good to be true, like this was really meant to happen, humans mutants, heroes and civilians, it just didn’t matter to her; Delilah knew she could take care of herself if she needed to and that time would come. This all just felt so good to her to care about the world and the battle the hovered on the horizon.
Eliot had definitely changed from what she thought of just that childhood friend to a person who could protect her when he needed to and isn’t that the kind of guy every girl wanted in their life? Delilah thought she never had a chance with him, the way how he had changed through the years, yet her she was pouring her heart out for him and him to her. There could be no one else who take his spot in her life now, he was on the pedestal. Her heart fluttered at the thought, it was weird to think someone in such importance but her were the thoughts.
After all of that spun around her mind, that moment was done and it made her a little upset. She opened her eyes and stared up at him, but there was a slightly laziness to them, love drunk as they would call it. Eliot then came back once more and Delilah allowed it, that moment once more came, as if this was the best thing in the world, it was like drinking water after roaming an endless desert. Delilah had have moments of happiness but this one was indescribable; it wasn’t winning and showing up the loser but something more.
It seemed like they were like that forever and yet it was only a short moment. Once more they broke away from the heaven. There was a look in eyes, as if a decision had been made and he wouldn’t go back, Delilah narrowed her eyes playfully and smiled up at him.
And there it was, the best sound anyone can make: you boyfriend. Ok maybe the proposal question was the best sound, but for a bunch of teenagers’ boyfriend would do it. Her smile grew and her eyes shone, her head bobbed up and down quickly. ”I would love to be your girlfriend.”
Now, the only thing that lingered would be telling him she was something unusual, a telepath. Crap! She was going to have to tell him that, but it didn’t matter not right now. Maybe she’ll have to talk to Ben about that let Eliot in on whom they truly were. Hopefully that wouldn’t be as much of a mess as today way. A mess? No it wasn’t, it went from horrible to the most perfect day, even if the cops were below.

So... That had all changed so fast. A relationship they had forged over years and years just changed and exploded, transformed into something entirely different in less than an hour.
And he liked it. He felt like she was the one, that he'd been blind not to see it all this time... And he wanted to go further with her. He'd never done anything beyond a kiss, and.. Well, with her he'd explored as a little kid, going out into the forest by his cabin sometimes, if her parents let her. Why wouldn't he want to continue exploring with her? But now instead of the peaceful outdoors, they'd be experimenting with something much more temperamental, much more wild... Themselves.
Though he didn't even know for sure if she wanted to do that. Hell, or if he even wanted to. Did his need to satisfy these carnal desires come from his love for her, or just a temporarily heightened infatuation?
...whatever it was, she was his and he was hers now. And the responsibility of that hadn't quite hit him yet. He needed to be honest.... Shoot, she needed to be honest. But... Now, he just wanted her. He smiled. "I have been waiting way too long to ask you that," he said, laughing a little before returning to the sort of love struck gaze.
He wanted to... Go off with her somewhere. But he had to remind himself to take it slow... It wasn't just some girl he was dealing with.

Did this ever happen with other opposite gender friendships? Did they blossom into something amazing; were those couples as happy as these two could be? Delilah would say no; this moment was too special and magical for them or anyone else.
Now the question was: what next? How fast should this relationship develop; they’ve known each other for a long time, so there wouldn’t be a lot to share expect themselves in almost every aspect. Wait why was she thinking this was a marriage. Holy crap, marriage, no thoughts shouldn’t go there, Delilah had seen things go sour in a relationship when the girl brought that thought in; they should just go slow and steady.
Well, he was good with his words; her heart beat in a very fast pace. “I’ve kind of liked you for a while, as well.” She mumbled, looking down, her blushing started to come back again a small smile on her face. “I’m sorry; I’m very flustered about this, I don’t what to think or to do.” Delilah raised her hands and touched her face, almost shielding her eyes all the while speaking very fast. ”This isn’t like me. I typically know what to do.” Her eyes flickered up to Eliot, her hands still protecting her face from both her embarrassment and the glow from their kiss.
”We should probably go to my house and tell my parents. They would to love to know at least one of the children has a love life.” She mumbled into her hands.

"I know, I know, you know what to do, just.." she was probably still in shock from the whole shoot out earlier. "calm down. We have to let them know you're safe, too."
They probably cared more about her welfare and continued existence than about her relationship with him. Hell they had probably seen this coming for a long time. Their parents had always been friends, and they probably were the reason behind this whole thing, waiting until the day it inevitably happened.
And it finally did. He came to the realization that a kiss was all he'd ever done, and it was all they'd done, too. He wondered if he was her first.. Maybe. But something he hoped for was that they had the chance to do even more, taking it slowly and learning the whole time.
He didn't know why his mind got dirty. The hormones, probably.
Oh right, leaving. He pulled her up off the bench, and walked out of the mall, which was starting to empty, and across the parking lot under the hot summer sun, and to his car. All the time they were holding hands and the blood under his skin was boiling, his heart racing, his mind thinking of all the things he would do with her, though it strayed away from the gutter to think up romantic dates as well.
He didn't know how it happened so fast, but he knew he was about to get in his car with her, his girlfriend. It was a moment that made him proud, that filled him to the brim with a buttery, warm feeling, like everything was right with the world and he had a normal childhood, and he wasnt a marked man.
His mind put aside those thoughts for her. He wouldn't admit it to her or even to himself, but he'd fallen in love with her a long time ago.
"well... Here we are," he said, brimming with a mix of love and sexual tension as they stood outside his car. In the setting sun, maybe they could slip into the back instead and let the world fall through their fingertips.

Once he got her home, Delilah would have a calmer time being in a more comfortable and calm setting than here. ”Ok.” Was her only reply, kind of rare but in this situation understandable? Thinking about it her parents would freak out that she was in shoot down than getting into a relationship with Eli; thinking harder they’ve always pushed for this, but with Delilah’s deep blonde roots it would go over head for a short time until it dawned on her.
They were always more overly friendly with him than most other boys now that she thought about it. Dang, did they set her up. Delilah didn’t mind down, but she’ll have to sit down with them tonight. They wanted to see her happy with a man in her busy lie, seeing if it’ll calm her busy life down; mentally she sighed to herself. She didn’t have a clue as to what to do, she was trained more on keeping her abilities a secrete not how to treat a guy and how a guy should treat her, but seeing how Ben had always been nice and serious, always a gentleman, that’s the way how she wanted her man to be and Eliot did act like that. Ok, good start to this relationship that had just started.
She then felt herself get pulled up from the bench, slowly walking through the mall, and the voices of everyone quieting down. He didn’t seem to know that they were holding hands, she found it nice and secured; Delilah leaned her head onto his bicep, feeling the muscle underneath as he moved, she closed her eyes for a while allowing him to lead her. Yep, he defiantly strengthened up, she tried remembering when but it only tickled the back of her mind in annoyance. A coy smile spread on her face, this could end in a happily ever after situation, they would make everyone jealous.
Who liked who first, she didn’t know, it’s like the relationship just grew from little kids, to school mates, well you get the picture, like every stage of life was just a step and they took the greatest leap together.
”Mmhm.” She hummed out, fluttering her eyes open, looking up at him. ”You know if you’re thinking anything bad, Ben will find you and possibly hurt you in some way.” She said in amusement, she could probably enter his thoughts and see, put she was too embarrassed to think of doing that; Delilah didn’t even know that he was battling with inner thoughts of what to do, in some way it almost made her seem like a mind reader. And her threat was true, telekinesis versus pure human strength, ding ding battle of the century right there.

Thinking anything bad? Could she tell? Did he have a... No, all fine.
He squeezed her hand. "Oh Ben's just a big teddy bear. He knows I wouldn't ever hurt you..."
He started to trail off. Thinking something bad? Did he give off the impression that he was thinking something bad? He'd only hesitated for a few moments outside the car, only stood in wonder a second or two, wondering what her body would feel like close up against his, creating warmth out of nothing, a spark between the two that told of unbridled passion, passion that had been simmering for sixteen years that only now was boiling over.
Well she didn't say she'd be opposed to it, or anything. Maybe they could just kiss and see where it went? He opened the back door with a certain finality of decision. Hey, if she didn't want to do anything now, there was only a little awkward head shake and he would change the subject and they would move on. He would say something to make her laugh. But... He liked taking chances. They could make out back there and nothing more, they could take it farther, but regardless.. He preferred it over the PDA they had been having before, however romantic it was.
He climbed in and smiled up at her. "So. Where are we going?"

Had she ever since him truly angry, not really, mad yes. Delilah only chuckled at his response. “Ok, ok, you got me there.” She tilted her head slightly, seeing him go into thought; she wondered what he was thinking. Oh how easy it would be for her to just go out and touch his field and to dive in.
But then what if he was thinking of moving it fast, friends then lovers and then to that? It didn’t disgust her, but to be in her very first relationship, it felt too fast for her. Actually thinking about it that way, her face brightened up with red slightly, her hand also curled slightly in nervousness. Delilah’s eye flickered up to see the backdoor was open; he really was thinking that. Would it be fast or slow, did they really have to do it?
She inaudibly gulped; the decision was all hers from here. Looking from the door to Eli and back, she rubbed the back of her neck. Her hands than ran up her face. “I’m sorry.” She mumbled, “I don’t think I have it in me.” Delilah looked between her fingers. He even took the commencement to this moment, all she wanted to do was go home and talk, get the day off her chest to someone.
Her heart raced, she wouldn’t look down on him like this, he was in the moment, she was too, but had the better stance for them.

No?
In his mid, he realized what he had been proposing. With his childhood frien--well shit, now girlfriend, but still. These things needed time. He still thought of her as his friend... Well, okay, his really hot friend that he could see himself sticking with for a long time. But anyway, they needed time. The flame that burns brightest burns shortest, and all that.
He smiled and pushed himself out of the backseat, taking her in his arms. "Thank you," he said softly, hugged her, and opened the passenger side door for her, then walked himself to the other side. "I mean, I--I really like you. We gotta do some more important things first, though."
Like get her home, tell her parents that they finally got smart. Or brave. Or... Attractive, whatever it was. A kiss was enough to seal the deal without pushing the envelope. They could take their time and, hey... If it didn't happen for a long time, that was fine. It would change the nature a little, but--he felt so comfortable with her anyway, that he believed nothing could sever the friendship that was the basis of their new relationship.
Maybe he was right, and maybe a lot could change in a tiny amount of time, with just one bad--or good--decision.

Relief left her body, happy that he would take it slow than just diving right into the relationship, that was their trust that they had built up and it made Delilah feel better than ever. She had seen people get thrown away because of one night stands, the relationship got boring after the couple had figured out each other after their experience. Slow and steady wins the race.
He was right; she smiled lightly up at him. “Yeah, you’re right.” They needed to get her home, her parents must’ve heard what had happened earlier and they need to know that their relationship grew to the next level. They were familiar with each other which made this jump a little more comfortable than if they weren’t friends in the first place.
She stepped into the car, watching him walk to the other side and getting the car started. The drive felt like a long time, the scene of the town went by and shifted into her neighborhood. The heat of their moment still lingered there, despite cool air rushing around.
But there was her house, two stories, as some would like to call it a cookie cut shape house, it looked like most of the other ones out there; it was white with blue trimming, very homely for the family that unexpectedly grew from one to three. Delilah looked up to the big house and then over to Eli a smile spread on her face.
“I guess it’s time to meet the family.” She chuckled, she was nervous now even though she knew they would accept him but she had never brought a boyfriend home before. First time for everything, right?
